Can you wear make up during a c section?

I know, I know, the most vain question in the world!!

I am a bit of a trog when fresh-faced. But would like to look half human for my first pictures with baby after my c section.

Is it ok to put a bit of slap on before I go in, or will they make me scrub it off?

I'm not talking buckets, just a bit of blusher and some mascara.

Thanks in advance.

I have been asked to remove all makeup before a general anaesthetic before, I have no idea for a section with regional anaesthetic I'm afraid. Personally I'm very risk averse when it comes to health so would be happy to go without if there was any potential benefit to it at all.

Anaesthetist. People are told not to wear make up before an op (especially nail varnish), but if you were to turn up fully made up, you won't be asked to remove it. I have been a little bit Confused at the amount some people have pitched up wearing though!

Just remember waterproof mascara.

Oh, an no contacts (in case you need a general for any reason).

I wouldn't. When I had mine I felt really itchy and spent the entire time rubbing my face with a cloth. You'd wreck the makeup and look a disaster afterwards.

Sorry but it sounds a bit Kim Kardashian and her first labour. I'd be worried about it all getting smudged. Without makeup but with new baby would look beautiful.

No contacts? Bugger.

I honestly didn't think about the make up but I don't want to wear my glasses! Definitely first world
Problem here.

Yes you can wear make up. Nail varnish is depending on trust. Often asked to remove all or at least a couple of fingers. Sometimes sats probes can't read through varnish or fake nails. Also helpful for capillary refil to see the nail

another Really? I've never had a c section but I've racked up double figures of surgeries under general and I've never been asked to take my contacts out. Oops!

I was red and sweaty after my emergency section following a long labour. However when I look at the first photo of DS, DH and I all I feel is love and happiness! I have terrible skin so would never have believed I would have been ok showing people that picture but it's so special I've shown many people and I usually would never let people except DH see me with makeup on!

Good luck

Ps my hospital said nail varnish was ok but Shellac wasn't allowed for any type of labour

What about just toe nail varnish? Hate my toe nails without varnish

SockQueen · 23/11/2016 22:47

I wouldn't be bothered about toenail varnish (anaesthetist) but some hospitals are mega strict. And your toes will be covered by the drapes for the whole op, plus the theatre staff have almost certainly seen nastier looking feet!

TheCraicDealer · 23/11/2016 22:59

NB- I have no children. But what sort of make-up are posters wearing that stays on through labour?! I want the details of that shit.

It must be EL Doublewear. Only explanation.
