I had an EMCS last time and it's all a bit of a blur!

isn't it just a hospital gown?

Panzee · 15/10/2010 19:09

Gown. Some people have to wear surgical stockings (I didn't.). Bring a dressing gown, I walked to theatre and it covered up the gap in the back!
Also bring flip flops for afters, I couldn't put on shoes with backs because I couldn't bend/lift my leg the right way.

PixieCake · 15/10/2010 19:18

Good question Libra. And do you have to be completely naked underneath? (Having mine in 2 weeks).

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 15/10/2010 19:22

But if you are just in a hospital gown how do you get clothes on afterwards, I have a red vest top on in the evening photos so at some point I must have either not got completely undressed or got re-dressed which I would have thought would have been difficult with a line in. I am genuinely confused.

I was naked under the gown.
My canula got taken out that evening. Maybe yours did too? I got dressed the following morning.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 15/10/2010 19:24

Pixie - yes you will be starkers apart from the gown I think.

Libra - mine was an EMCS. I assume that at some point the midwives or perhaps DH took the gown off my drugged self and put my nightie on me - I have no recollection!

southeastastralbeing · 15/10/2010 19:25

you can't wear pants can you Grin

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 15/10/2010 19:27

So you were all starkers for the rest of the day? I deffo don't remember that and photos prove otherwise. Canula came out the next morning. Aliba it would make sense for me just to ask DH wouldn't it!

you keep the gown on, they gave me another one to go back to front, was very classy.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 15/10/2010 19:31

Dh doesn't know.

Libra - I had the gown on for a good while, there are pictures of me wearing my nightie taken at about 5pm when I came out of theatre at around noon. I was on so many drugs though, I'd been in labour for well over 24 hours having been induced and I'd had everything going by then and was completely out of it!
There are photos of me slumped over in bed gripping onto DS' ankle like grim death when he was in his little cot next to me. Definitely not the first few hours that I had planned!!
Still he was healthy and perfect and it didn't bugger up the BFing so all's well that ends well Grin

It's so weird, i know I had a gown on but no idea if I was wearing a bra underneath or not. I have no idea when I got dressed but I do remember the nurses putting disposable knickers on me aftewards ; (

To be honest I think your so drugged up afterwards you really don't care what your wearing!

rokersmum · 15/10/2010 21:09

I was totally naked apart from hospital gown, flip flops and surgical stockings when i went in (I also had a dressing gown on). Nurses then must have got me into my nightie when i was out of recovery. I didn't have a bed before the ECS and DH lost my boots so be careful if that happens to you!

SpecialC · 15/10/2010 21:16

Remember not to bother with pedicure / manicure on!! Had just paid for pedicure and given myself a manicure and widwife had to take it all off at midnight for my ECS. Waste of time & money!!

good luck for the C/S!!!

SparkyMalarky · 15/10/2010 21:17

For the ELCS itself yes a gown and you're naked underneath - they need access for the canula and 'swabbing' they do.

MWs helped me get into my nightie in recovery I think - I didn't get my canula out until the next morning, but I was in my nightie when DH brought my parents in to visit me the same day as the op!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 15/10/2010 21:40

Yes - ladies who are having a first time section - take a nightie and not pjs, because you will have a catheter in for some hours after your operation. I think mine was in overnight because I was so unsteady on my feet that I couldn't walk to the loo.

HappyAsASandboy · 16/10/2010 14:13

Librashavinganotherbiscuit - you can put clothes on with a line in - the bag of liquid comes of the stand and can be passed through your vest top strap/sleeve Smile
