Has anyone had Plantar Faciitiis in thier heels while pregnant. Its a true pain (in the heel) because i cant treat it with any anti-inflamitories so it just wont go away. Stops me from walking anywhere. I love walking too and it would be so good for the baby. :( any one else had this. And can I use ibulieve gel safely do you think?

I had it after pregnancy with DD. (Too much walking around on hard pavements with the stroller!) Don't know about the gel. There are stretching exercises you should do every day www.plantarfasciitisbraces.com/plantar_fasciitis_stretching_exercises.html . Also you should be able to walk on soft ground without setting it off, eg a woodland trail instead of tarmac. I also got an insole for my walking shoes - can;t now remember where I got it but you could try Boots. And I switched to comfy shoes, and wore them all the time (ie in the house as well as out). It took months for mine to get completely better but I don;t actually think there's much else you can do about it, unless it's bad enough for surgery, which you wouldn't want while pregnant anyway....

Hi olive oil, ibuleve gel shouldn't be used in pregnancy. Although it doesn't enter the bloodstream in the same quantities as oral ibuprofen, there's still a risk so it's a 'no' for the same reason as ibuprofen tablets. Sorry this won't help you, hope you feel better soon though x

I worked with a lady who had this. She basically could never wear nice shoes again and lived in trainers.

I got pf when pregnant and still suffer from it to some extent 2 years later. Cold therapy is good - put an ice pack or frozen peas on the area for 5 mins, off for 5 mins and then on again for 5 mins - up to 3 times a day. I actually bought an neoprene cold wrap for my foot which was great. Lots of stretching exercises as indicated by moirasings but be careful as your ligaments are soft during pregnancy and you don't want to damage them further.
I have insoles for my shoes from the podiatrist which help, and I have to avoid completely flat shoes as this makes it worse. A small heel is better. I was reading a thread on here last night on plantar fasciitiis so there's prob loads of advice on there if you can find it.

the only thing that i found that would shift it for good is a calf stretcher- i had a pro-stretch one. absolutely worked- i had PF for months and using calf stretcher made it go in a few days.
also- if bad you should limit walking and buy very cushioned trainers if you like walking long distances and won't be told not to (me!)

I suffered from this for 2 years - the only thing that cured it was acupuncture, and it worked fantastically. Make sure you dont walk on cold floors, always keep your feet and heels warm, stretch them every day and night and try the acupuncture (which is safe during pregnancy if done by a reputable acupuncturist)

as above, but also try this strapping, as long as you have no problems with tape, it can work brilliantly

I've had this for a while and it's almost completely cured - non-medically.

Never wear bare feet (this helped me magically); get referred by your GP to a podiatrist who will how you how to strap your feet (helped me as well); give you some shoe supports and show you some exercises.

Appletrees · 15/10/2010 09:40

Yes get shoe supports and really really stay off your feet as much as possible. It's awful and to get better as quickly as possible you need to rest it a LOT.

foxybear · 15/10/2010 20:33

Ive got this and it hurts!! I was told mine was caused by wearing ugg boots as they are too flat and cause no support to the foot.

TumTumGnu · 16/10/2010 05:45

Hi there, i have had this before and it can take ages to get rid off. I would go with the earlier suggestions but also add a couple more.

Make sure you don't wear the same shoes all the time, try wearing differant heal heights and always make sure you have adequate arch support.

for pain relief I can recomend putting a bottle of water in the freezer and then getting it out and rolling your foot back and forth on it. This is bliss once you get past the cold.

Gentle streaches a few times a day will do wonders, particularly when you first get up as this can be the most painful time. In fact I used to gently strech my achilles tendons before I even got out of bed or walking was agony.
