Just wondering what this might be? It's nothing major, I feel pretty much ok now (still got shaking hands and wobbly legs but otherwise ok)but just curious.

I'd just finished eating my sandwich for lunch and went really hot and dizzy and felt like I couldn't breathe/was going to faint.. passed after about 5 minutes but got shakey hands now and wobbly legs..

Anything to worry about do you think or just all par for the course?

Thankyou! :)

I am no expert but it does just sound as though you managed to avoid fainting. Did you get up suddenly after eating maybe?

I am not a fainting sort of person, but I did faint once (20 weeks pregnant) when I was in the shower washing my hair. I came to the conclusion I had got out of bed too quickly and smothered myself in too much hot water iyswim. I felt a bit weird for the rest of the day, but was otherwise fine.

was just sitting at my desk munching my lunch which is what was a bit odd..!

Have never fainted properly but sometimes feel like I might when I get up for the toilet in the night (only since being pregnant) but haven't moved have just been sitting here reading mumsnet and munching. Odd!

Any other thoughts? Still feeling rubbish.. dizzy, bit short of breath and now a headache.

Been having a bit of a google and it looks like feeling faint is quite common in pregnancy.. but just wasn't sure as hadn't got up, and had just eaten.

Any thoughts appreciated.. sorry if I just sound like a massive hypocondriach Confused

give your mw a ring, or the hospital unit just for advice, might be your blood pressure. I know when i was pregnant thats what my morning sickness was like, i'd get really hot and shakey, feel sick and have to lie down and eat something to feel better.

LDNlady · 14/10/2010 14:28

Yeah, low blood pressure can make you feel like that even when not pregnant but if it's carrying on I do think a call to MW would be a good idea even if just to put your mind at rest.

Thanks for your replies.. just tried the midwife but she must be off-shift (just get the 'phone is switched off' message)

Will see how it goes and if I still feel rubbish I can maybe go to the docs in the morning.

Thank you! It's difficult to know what you should be concerned about and what's just to be expected!

Sounds like it's definitely blood pressure.

From what I understand, it's quite common for pregnant people to have funny turns/faint after eating. It's because of a sudden drop in blood pressure, I guess all your blood rushes off to do digesting and leaves your brain, or something.

Anyway, apparently, if you faint, you need to hope that someone lies you down on the floor and puts your feet above your head, and then you will feel much better. If you feel faint, again try to lie down and raise your feet (I guess something to do with counteracting gravity? I don't know!!!) and you should start to feel better.

Shouldn't be anything to worry about, especially if you're feeling much better now.

Try drinking a load of water as well, that may help your headache if you're feeling a bit off.

Thanks cordiality, that's interesting to know it's common after eating. I am sure that's what it was then. I did wonder if I'd just been enjoying my sandwich so much I'd forgotton to breathe!Hmm

Thank you :) I'll try and eat more slowly in future! I read later this afternoon that it's quite common for your blood pressure to drop in the second trimester and then go up again in the third trimester so I'm sure it'll pass!

I used to get this a lot between 15-25wks, fainted a few times, used to carry mars bars and lucozade with me wherever I went, adn ram myself full of sugar whenever I felt myself 'going'.

MW & GP both agreed it's sometimes 'one of those things' and quite common in pregnancy.
