Long pillow thing

I'm 22 weeks now and starting to get a little uncomfortable when sleeping. I hear that these long bolster pillow things are good, but there seem to be loads of options, from real cheapies on ebay/amazon, to that dream genii thing that costs a fortune.

Does anyone have any strong recommendations as to what is actually comfy/not over the top? I think I'd just like something between my legs (fnar) and perhaps under bump.

Thanks...I know I could have done a search on this, so I'm sorry, but I'm feeling a bit tired and I think I'm getting a cold, please forgive me!

I like my Mothercare one. And as I swap sides a lot during the night I think a big normal-shaped pillow is better for me than a Dream Genie.

LilRedWG · 14/10/2010 11:09

I like the Mothercare one too. I did by a superwhizzy one the other week but sent it back as just not as comfy.

I have a dream genie and I love it - it goes everywhere with me!!

However, now that I am getting bigger (30+4) I use a normal pillow as well...

I got a real cheapy orthopedic pillow from Argos for about a tenner - the cover was RUBBISH so I have made a replacement, but other than that it has been ace, it's one of those corner type ones so I sleep with one end under the bump (am 39 weeks now) and the other between my legs. Figured I could probably use it when breastfeeding later. I'm sure it wont last as long as the dreamgenii but then it did cost a LOT less and I figured if I used it a lot I could always buy another and still be quids in!
Good luck Grin

I got a cheap one from Amazon which came with a nice cover too - I think it was about £12. I couldn't sleep without it. And now I have a normal pillow too.

Interesting! Thank you all for your advice, I guess maybe it's just a case of trial and error to see what works for me. May buy a cheapie and if it doesn't work, bite the bullet for the dream genii.

May need to speak to my DH about getting a bigger bed too... sounds like a double just isn't going to cut it for long, what with all the extra pillows!

One good thing about a big pillow as opposed to a Dream Genie is that it takes up less space in bed. I've found too that if I lie on my side facing the edge of the bed then the pillow can stick out a bit without it being an issue.

Dunhelm mill has loads if you are near one

LilRedWG · 14/10/2010 11:53

To be honest no bed is big enough when you are pregnant and uncomfortable. We have a king-sized bed and DH still complains that there is no room left for him.

OkieCokie · 14/10/2010 12:28

I didn't like the dream genii and preferred just a normal V shaped one. One piece of advice is don't order form www.pregnancypillow.co.uk as their customer service is non existent, they don't even list a telephone number on their website which says it all really. Despite sending 6 emails to them about an exchange I have yet to receive a response and my goods (yet they have my money). I am so angry with them and there is no way to speak to anyone! Crap company despite excellent selection of pillows!

Oh good advice Okie, thank you, sorry you're having such a nightmare!

LilRed, I may suggest to DH that he moves onto the sofa, it will be good practice for when the baby comes and there's precious little action in our bed anyway Blush !

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will buy everything I think...

I just bought a 6ft one off amazon, got really excited when it came and it never helped at all last night...first night using it and it was on the floor when I woke up!

Mirabelle77 · 14/10/2010 16:08

Im 39 weeks and have been using a normal pillow under bump every night and sometimes use a normal pillow between legs if i need it.

Haven't felt as though I needed a special pillow so I would save your money and get something else for baby/you as they have been great( except for when I turn over and am too fat to reach for it, but would happen with special pillow too!).

giddywithglee · 14/10/2010 16:09

I've got a long body one and I have to be honest it doesn't really help as it made me feel claustrophobic in the bed - even though we've got a kingsize bed!

DH has kindly donated one of his normal pillows that I now rest my bump on, and I prefer it (I think he was so fed up with me huffing and puffing and sighing as I tried to get comfy hee hee).

boognish · 14/10/2010 16:12

Lidl are apparently doing one of the long ones for about a tenner at the moment. It is supposed to be better than the Argos one, and a lot of people prefer that shape to the dreamgenii.

billybunter · 14/10/2010 16:22

Dream genii crap - like trying to sleep with your bump rested on a bannister. Really high and hard.
Avoid!!

allyfe · 14/10/2010 16:56

I use one which may be a dream geni (borrowed). It is kind of like a long beanbag. For ages I was just using pillows, but I get sore ribs after a while, and have to change sides a lot and the big pillows were really annoying. I much prefer the dream geni thing, although I don't actually use it for my head, just my body. It isn't perfect, so I would think a replica would probably do.

My friend used hers for breastfeeding after, and found it to be great. I tried it for that and HATED it. But it is worth bearing in mind that it may be useful beyond being pregnant (if you are lucky).
