My daughter is a very bright 5 1/2 year old and I am about to tell her I am pregnant. I know she will be delighted, but also will ask a lot of questions!

Can anyone recommend any books aimed at children about pregnancy? with really good pictures?

Its got to be "Mummy laid an egg" totally hilarious and quite grown up in an honest kind of way - brilliantly funny pictures!! Its by Babette Cole Grin

Would the books mentioned be suitable for a 2 1/2 year old too? Or are there books on the subject more suitable for younger children?

Can recommend what's in side your tummy mummy. Has real facts about what is going on with the baby.

Also the pictures are life size so if you hold them to your ever expanding tummy they will see the actual size of the baby.

My 3yr old ds loved this book and would ask to see it every night along side his usual story.

Id recommend -theres a house inside my mummy, mummy laid an egg, and Happy Birth Day :-) All were a great hit in my house - especially theres a house inside my mummy a great read for kids of any age :-)

Mummy laid an egg is brilliant.

Bought it for DC's when they were 3 and 4 and they still read it sometimes. Also neatly covers sex without any drama, which surprisingly not all pregnancy books do.

For the 2.6 year old, try 'there's going to be a baby' by Helen Oxenbury and John Burningham. My DD is asking for it every day and it generates lots of conversation. I'm only 19 weeks so a long way to go, but she picked up from overheard talk that we were 'getting a baby of our own'.
