Should I take predictions of a big baby seriously?

I had a growth scan at about 32 weeks which showed the baby within the lines of my growth chart thing and weighing about 4 pounds I think. Nobody said anything to me about a big baby or anything to worry about. I saw the consultant and he didn't say anything.

I have always measured dead on for my dates.

I saw the midwife at 34 weeks and she said 'this is going to be a big baby you know'. I was measuring exactly right for my dates again!

I am confused about why she said it and am kicking myself for not asking. I expect baby not to be tiny as I am overweight but I don't understand why she was almost trying to warn me it would be big. She wasn't able to establish whether or not the baby was head down even so how could she have a stab at the size?

I had a GTT test and it was normal.

at 32 weeks my baby was measured and i was told she was 7 Lb at birth 39.1 she was 9lb 1 so not a big baby

At 36 weeks i was told ds2 was 8lb and was going to be big, he was born 7lb 8oz, so clearly not big. Theres not much you can do anyway, so try to relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!!

My midwife told me I was having a 9 pounder - scared the bejesus out of me! DS was 7lbs...

I am short waisted, so my bump was massive - there was nowhere else for it to go but outwards! Midwife didn't seem to consider this when uttering her pearls of wisdom about my HUGE baby Smile

4 midwives and a doctor told me I was going to have a whopper, so I arrived at the hospital with larger sized babygros. DS was 6lbs 11oz. I had to send dh back home to get something that didn't drown him. He was quite lengthy which I think was why he felt big. I don't think they can really tell by feeling and measuring the bump.So don't panic. Being overweight doesn't affect the size of your baby.

I had a growth scan at 35 weeks and was told baby was about 7lb10, 3 weeks to go until I find out how big! But ds1 was 9lb15 (at 39 weeks) and ds2 10lb7 at term. I wouldn't worry too much as the scans are notoriously inaccurate and if your GTT was ok then you are likely to make a baby the right size for you.
