DP and I are starting TTC this month. Since coming off the pill earlier this summer, my periods have been reasonably regular - apart from one month missed completely, and the following month being very light. Last period started September 8th and my cycle seems to be around 28 days. We had unprotected sex last Sunday (Oct 3), which should have been way past the point when I'd be ovulating, so I didn't think much of it. A week later, I find I have a funny taste in my mouth - feels like a fuzzy tongue, despite the fact that did brush my teeth this morning! - and still no sign of AF. No other symptoms, though.

Am I reading too much into this? Have we been incredibly lucky the first time around (at the wrong time of month) or is it way too early to say?

Not sure if last reply sent, sorry if saying this again.
Just do a test as soon as period due! You never know! Good luck

Hi kwini, get yourself an early test from superdrug, they pick a week before your period is due. Good luck!

If your cycle is normally 28 days and its 32 days since your last period then its possible you're pregnant - if you want to know you need to take a test to find out (you can get cheap tests here that work just fine, and if you use the code "save5" you'll get 5% off - promise I don't work for them, just found found them to be cheap and reliable :). Only suggestion is to avoid the ultra early tests - having had a couple of early MCs I'm not sure I was actually better off for knowing I was pregnant 2 days before AF due, only for AF to come along regardless...). Not all women have many symptoms, so lack of them doesn't mean you can't be pregnant.

Have you tried doing any kind of fertility awareness? I turn into a bit of a control freak when TTC and found the info on Fertility Friend really useful for helping me work out if/when I ovulated during a cycle.

Fingers crossed for you :)

Thanks, all. I know, a test is the only way to be sure, but...

I mean, we had sex about three days before AF was due. Surely that's way too late TC?? And presumably that means I'll have to wait until next period to test?

Tangle, I'm slightly overwhelmed by all the info on FF, to be honest! I've just about got my head around ovulation and EWCM (can't believe it's taken me this long) and figured I'd hold off the charting, etc. until we'd been trying for a while...

If your cycle is usually 28 days then, if your LMP was on the 8th September you're already 4 days late. Its not unheard of for women to have a 2nd ovulation later in their cycle - this may be what's happened. Or you might just be a few days late for some reason.

If you are pregnant then a test now should show that - if it comes back -ve then I think they advise waiting 5 days and if still no AF retest - if STILL -ve then see your GP.

If you haven't been charting in some way shape or form then you really don't know when you ovulated - some women do ovulate very late.

I've come to the conclusion that logic and reasoning can only take you so far - after a point medicine does become an art rather than a science and until they put a rigorous QC procedure on all reproduction to ensure we're all carbon copies it will be nigh on impossible to be 100% certain of everything to do with our bodies all of the time.

Given what happened this month it does, on paper, seem unlikely that your pregnant. But then why do you have no period? If you are pregnant then you should develop enough hCG to show on an HPT very soon if not already - so I would say if you're AF doesn't arrive this week do a test and if its +ve don't ask too many questions :o (although bear in mind your EDD from LMP might be a week early due to late ovulation) and if its -ve book to see your GP to try and work out what's going on.

Fingers crossed for you :)

Thanks, Tangle. I must admit, I can't quite believe we'd be this lucky - as I've missed periods before it still seems that this is the most likely possibility. Shall give it another week, and then test...

LOL - it can be a bit mind blowing. I know what you mean though - once I'd read it I did wonder how I could get to 30 without noticing all these things that changed every month. I was also impatient and decided that if I was going to TTC I wanted to make sure I was doing it right (is that impatient or a manifestation of OCD Blush?)

For me, I decided I wanted to know if/when I was ovulating - and temping seemed the most reliable way of doing it. It was also easy and had no ongoing cost (unlike fertility monitors, OPTs, etc). You don't really need to understand all the whys and wherefores, just to know what change you're looking for and how to measure it. FF then provides a useful mechanism for recording it all and visualizing it.

Kwini, if your period is late, do a test today! Just to put your mind at rest either way. I got preg this time five days before period was due. We thought it was the safe time, but didn't really matter, as we both wanted another one, just didn't plan for it to happen that quickly. Bodies are strange things, just find out and then you'll know!

Kwini · 11/10/2010 13:06

Tangle, I hear you on the OCD front! Will certainly consider temping in due course, though...

bundle, I know, I know... altho if test comes back negative, I may well find myself even more confused!

OP posts:

But if it comes back negative then at least you'll know and won't be tying self in knots wondering and worrying. And then have loads of sex in about two weeks!
