Nappy Bags - worth it?

Do you think it's worth buying a nappy bag you love? If so, what was your fave and why?

No, just get a roomy bag, IMO.

goodlifemummy · 08/10/2010 05:25

Yes, because I want to!! I will be using mine as my handbag anyway, so I only have one bag to cayy around, but it doesn't have to be a designated nappy bag IYSWIM....Accessorize always do some gorgeous big ones...

I got one, as I didn't have a decent bag that would be suitable anyway. I splashed out on a Storksak and I love it - it doesn't look like a changing bag and I could easily use it as a "normal" bag.

I don't like carrying a backpack (as various people recommended to me instead of a changing bag) so I wanted a decent shoulder bag. I like all the pockets inside, room for changing mat, etc.

Having said that, a friend of mine just has a small sponge bag with nappy, changing mat and wipes, that she pops in whatever bag she is taking with her. I thought that was a brilliant idea!

So no it's not essential, but some people (e.g. me) do find it useful to have one!

most I have seen are not great, and if they are great they are very expensive! However I found a nice one at Jo Jo Maman Bebe for £35, with alll the little insulated compartments etc. Otherwise I would have bought a back pack style bag and bought the changing mat etc separately, which is what I did last time.

I always thought the free one from Boots was the best.

If you are an advantage card holder join the parenting club and you will get a voucher for it.

The free one from boots is good and I used it for the first month or so until I figured out what I would want. I got a Pink Lining one and have found it really good. The mat that comes with it is great, nice and thick but it does take up more room so I sometimes substitute it for a thin little one that came free with a magazine.

roomy bag, lots of pockets. In six months you'll be sick of the sight of it

MuffinMouse · 08/10/2010 13:39

If a nappy bag has irked you - why was that?

I have the Bababing - it is good, especially as not girlie, so dp can use it. Only issue is - its not easy to get the mat out and put it down one handed. If you go into changing facilities that aren't clean, you have to get the mat out and lay it down whilst holding baby with other arm - not easy! I've seen ones where the mat is just extension of the bag, iywim, so you just plonk the bag down and unravel the mat. Seems good idea to me.

I thought this was about the nappy bags you put dirty nappies in!! Doh!

goodlifemummy · 08/10/2010 14:28

So did I at first - and yes they are so worth it!!

FortunateHamster · 08/10/2010 14:29

No, nappy bags probably aren't worth it in terms of use for money. BUT, if you fancy one and can afford it/someone is getting you one as a gift, go for it. I wanted one because I was sorting out loads of stuff for the baby prior to birth and wanted to treat myself for a change (sounds so selfish now, but ho hum).

A normal bag will work fine (especially if it has lots of compartments) but change bags may fit your needs just as well or better,

I ended up getting a Babymel after spending hours (not an exaggeration) figuring out what size I wanted, what I could afford, what bottles would fit, etc. The changing mat is pretty rubbish (it's small), and some find the fabric a bit cheap, but I like the compartments inside and it's one of the few bags that can fit the tommee tippee bottles in the insulated pockets (which admittedly don't get used as I ended up bfing and don't express much yet). It was important for me to get one that zipped at the top as I don't like bags with just a popper or that are always open. It also looks like a 'normal' bag which you may or may not be bothered about.

I also liked the OiOi and JJ Cole bags but they cost a bit more.

inbetweener · 08/10/2010 14:47

I thought that too, that this was about the little plastic scebted bags and the answer to that is God yes !!!!

As for a " proper " grown up nappy bag I dont think I had one with my DD. Its been 6 years I can barely remember. I think I started off with a free black one from Mothercare but it was a bit shit so i ended up just using my own bag. Not sure this time round. I will hav eto see whats out there.

That hasnt helped has it Grin

Jellyrollgumdrop · 08/10/2010 15:13
