I always thought I would be curious what it tasted like but today a bit of white stuff appeared on my nipple (as opposed the the usual clear stuff - I am 30 weeks by the way) and all I could think was urggh!

"There was a poster on here whose name was something like "BreastMilkDoesAGreatLatte" and I've been intrigued to try this out for myself, but I just can't do it."

No, honestly, I've never tasted my own milk. I'm curious but the whole idea feels to me so utterly taboo in a way I just can't explain. Probably something ingrained evolutinarily to prevent mothers deprived babies of their rightful milk supply...?

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 07/10/2010 12:47

... and just to clarify further, I've never made a latte out of my own milk, either. Or a cappuccino, just to be perfectly clear. Or a mocha, for that matter!

I'm just a fan of coffee, that's all...

I've tried it, I don't like it though. If you are ever stuck unable to get letdown when you want to express, if you can reach to suck it yourself it seems to trigger letdown (and make expressing easier).

I've done it a few times but the taste makes me retch. It's the combination of it being watery and warm

Grin Watery and warm is a nice cuppa for us grown ups. Tea or coffee anyone?

Have I killed the thread now? Find it fascinating.

Poledra · 07/10/2010 13:30

I did - not that I set out to really, but when it had dripped on my hands or something, I'd lick it off.

DH tasted it too, but that was inadvertent - well, what did he think would happen if we started gettin' it on while i was still bfeeding?? I couldn't control the let-down.........

BertieBotts · 07/10/2010 13:58

I know, but eurgh, it tastes like really weak dishwater tea to me. I like strong tea!

mousymouse · 07/10/2010 14:01

of course I have. did not like the taste, though. but as long as dd is happy :)

formula tastes vile...

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 07/10/2010 14:04

Yes I have tasted mine lots of times and it's exceptionally sweet and seems to find every corner of my mouth, quite an after-taste to it too. I don't love it but it's not unpleasent either. I can understand why babies like it. Formula OTOH tastes and smells foul and I couldn't bring myself to drink much of that!

I have tried to get DP to taste some and I find it pretty insulting that he won't, but he will drink a cows breastmilk Hmm Grin

I know a woman who bakes with her soon to expire frozen milk.. I have my coffee black and solo at her house!
Tasted it lots of times.. they make you taste it traveling through airports.. I always have a couple of bottles for long hauls so DH can take over if its getting too much!

WowOoo · 07/10/2010 14:18

Blimey wonka, bet you pretend you've just eaten and don't want a slice of sponge cake either.

Very thrifty of her though...

dh and i did actually put some in our tea one morning - we were out of milk and ds had fed from one side and gone back to sleep, so was a bit uncomfortable and needed to express! it wasn't very nice in tea as someone else has said, too thin and watery.

never thought of trying to suck it myself! don't think my boobs are big enough.

Riponite · 07/10/2010 18:15

DH drank loads! Luckily there was plenty to go round...
