I have pain in my hip/bottom area that feels a bit like I have pulled a muscle in my bum if I move around... Blush

Does this sound like the start of SPD to anyone?

I don't know, but I have the same if I've had a busy day, so I'll wait to hear the answers to this!

japhrimel · 06/10/2010 16:35

Is it at the very front, in the middle, low down? If so, it probably is the start of SPD. If not, it probably isn't SPD but could be PGP.

I'd get a physio referral - the earlier you start physio exercises, the more they can help.

GinaFB · 06/10/2010 21:42

It's through my bottom and hip on the RHS at the back. Reading more it i think it might be Sciatica...

I think SPD/PGP covers a fairly wide range of symptoms. The Pelvic Partnership have lots of very good information and can let you have details of physios in your area - check out their website herewww.pelvicpartnership.org.uk/

GinaFB I have exactly the same symptoms as you so will be interested to hear what anyone else has to say.
Will check out the website above too.

Mine is like a lower back ache which progresses into a sciatic like pain going down both buttocks and then radiates round to my hips.

I wouldn't say it was excruciatingly painful more annoying and tiring!

Prob being a bit dim but what is PGP??

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 07/10/2010 00:14

That sounds like sciatica to me - I get it when I'm pregnant.

I find that walking and also some gentle stretching really help, the killer for me is a day on my feet but just sort of standing about or general running round after DS.

It doesn't sound like SPD, I get that too and it is like being hit in the crotch with a sledgehammer.

MrsWajs - pelvic girdle pain.

Mads76 · 07/10/2010 08:18

For the last couple of weeks I have been getting a tingling/niggling pain in my right buttocks that then radiates down my leg. I thought I would try sleeping on my left side as I wasn't experiencing the pain. However for the last couple of nights I'm tossing and turning on both sides as the pain is there.

Last night I hardly slept as the pain kept me awake. In the end I had to sleep upright with all the pillows behind me just to get some sleep. I am soooooooooo tired today and DP is home after being away for a few nights so he will be wanting his pillows back. Booooo.

I'm only 16+4 weeks and have a good sized bump, what on earth am I going to be like later on in pregnancy.

Miffster · 07/10/2010 08:37

Often misdiagnosed as sciatica, it sounds like pelvic girdle pain*,

here is a really good link about it. I'd urge you to get it seen to, mine started out like this, I ignored it and it quickly orogressed to the point where I would cry out when I had to stand up, and couldnt unbend from my chair for a couple of minutes but had to shuffle, bent over, like an old lady.

I told my GP and midwife, and I found out my hospital ran an antenatal PGP clinic, an exercise class and gave out back braces, all of which have helped a bit but would be better if I'd gone in sooner

Sending you my sympathies anyway.

GinaFB · 07/10/2010 12:58

Miffster mine is already at the point where it has brought tears to my eyes as the stabbing pain has been very intense right through my right buttock and hip and into my thigh.

I was wondering about visiting the GP for a referal for physio... perhaps I should contact my midwife first?

You might be able to self-refer - the midwife should know if there is a PGP/pg clinic at the hospital where you are booked in?

Either way I'd talk to someone asap, it's grim putting up with it and there are things you can do to get relief.

loubaby1 · 07/10/2010 21:12

That sounds like exactly what I had, I suffered from 16 weeks and it got worse and worse. At my 25 week appointment I told my GP she was really good and referred me straight away, I've been given a pelvic brace which has really helped. I wish I'd done it earlier so don't wait would be my advice!

narmada · 07/10/2010 21:32

Could be piriformis muscle-related problem, squashing your sciatic nerve. Could be SPD/ PGP. I would definitely second the physio recommendations above. Hope you get relief soon.

GinaFB · 08/10/2010 10:07

Thanks so much for your advice. I spoke to my midwife who has immediatly referred me to a physio and said I will probably have some kind of support given to me so hopefully it will help ease the pain!
