Has anyone had a private birth at John Radcliffe Oxford?

Just wondering if anyone on here has had a private antenatal and delivery here? Any Consultant recommendations? Any good or bad points etc?

Choices are seriously limited for care outside the NHS away from London...

Thanks in advance

Hi,
I haven't had a private birth at the JR, but I had my DD there. It is a very good hospital IMO and on the whole my experience of the staff both antenatally and during labour was extremely good. I would therefore imagine that if you are going privately it should be even better. The only thing I would say is that I had to stay in hospital for a week due to a very difficult birth and my daughter being ill. The post natal care was not fantastic, but from many people I have spoken to it seems that many hospitals do not have great post natal care as they are expecting us to go home within a day (I think post natal care is different if you have a c-sec as they expect you to stay in longer). However, as I said I went through the NHS, so you would hope that post natal care would be much better if you go privately.

This pregnancy I am seeing a consultant called Mr Impey and I cannot recommend him more highly, he is really nice and very reassuring. I have no idea if he sees private patients as well as NHS patients though.

Hope this helps.

Yes, Mr Impey is great. I had my dd in the MLU at the John Radcliffe and they were completely brilliant. It's a really calm environment, there are several delivery rooms to choose from (one with a pool, one with lots of cushions, beanbags etc for active deliveries) all with en suite bathrooms and beds so you stay in the room for a while after delivery and can feed, rest, have a cup of tea etc without having to move. And if it all gets too much and you decide you want an epidural or you need a c-section or anything then the 'normal' obstetric unit is only two floors down. I'm definitely going back to the MLU for this birth.
