I simply cannot get comfortable.

When I lie down I feel nauseous and breathless and as though someone is sitting on my chest. Sitting up eases it a bit but I cannot sleep this way.

What am I going to do????

This is third night of not being able to lie down at all.

I am beginning to panic at the thought of another 6 weeks like this.

Anyone else out there in a similar predicament? Any advice.

Desperate now... Sad

daisy you poor thing :(

Have you got one of those full body pillows? I found that really helpful because I was sort of propped up.

You should find in the next couple of weeks that your bump drops a bit as your baby thinks about engaging for labour, and at that point breathing, eating etc get a bit easier and your heartburn should improve if you are suffering!

MummyAbroad · 06/10/2010 02:34

Sorry you are suffering

I found I was more comfy on the sofa than the bed, it felt good on my side with my back being supported by the back rest. Try experimenting with different places or try putting the sofa cushions on your bed and propping yourself up that way.

I also drank a herbal sleep inducing tea before bed. It did relax me, but the bugger is you need to get up a pee in the night because of it!

Alibaba is right, the baby will drop soon, so dont think you have to endure 6 weeks of this, things will change soon.

best wishes xxxxx

Feeling your pain, and I'm only 28 weeks! No advice I'm afraid, just empathy. i just come downstairs and do very unproductive things until I'm so tired my body takes over. I also find it easier sleeping on the sofa as then I'm not worried that my wakefulness is keeping DP awake.
There are probably some good relaxation/ meditation thingies you could download onto an ipod to help you go back when you're awake? Actually, I might look into that myself in the morning!

I am the same, restless legs all night with pelvic and back pain and the 2 times I was nearly off to sleep DS1 woke up with a nightmare and then feeling poorly.
I am booking in for a massage today - hope that helps!

It makes me feel a bit better knowing I am not the only one.

I did get up and tidy up in the kitchen in the end. So went to bed abougt 1.30am when I could barely keep my eyes open anymore.

That seems to be the only way to do it - wear yourself out to the point of exhaustion so you pass out. Don't think this is very healthy though.

Woke up stiff as a board this morning. I was like a little old lady hunched over and unable to straighten up.

Thanks for all your words of support Smile

Daisy I am usually awake between 3am and 5am and have been for a couple of weeks (am now 38 weeks). The thing is that pregnancy can be quite unpredictable so while you are finding it difficult to sleep and be comfy at the moment it doesn't mean that it will last forever. Rather than lie in bed I get up now and read (which doesn't disturb DH either). After a little while I do tend to get sleepy again so I go back to bed. It's not ideal but I found that I would lie in bed getting more and more cross that I was awake which kept me awake! You will find that when your baby engages lying down becomes more comfortable again, this could begin to happen any time. I have had a problematic cyst and it has meant that I can't sit on chairs. When it first happened, at about 32 weeks, I was beside myself but I have found ways through trial and error to manage the discomfort. My baby was 2/5 engaged at 36 weeks which has really helped me. It will get better, nothing in pregnancy stays the same for very long!

SamanthaB - what was your 'problematic cyst'?. I have had something similar recently and was wondering if it was pregnancy related. Wasn't sure whether to contact the midwife or GP about it.

A cyst was found at my 20 week scan and has been monitored ever since. I didn't have it at the 12 week scan. My ovary is currently under my ribs (?) and the cyst is all squashed in with the placenta, the baby's feet and my lungs. There simply isn't enough room there so I have consistent pain at the top of my bump and in my back behind where all the action is. When I sit down everything becomes compressed and the pain is much worse. I have found that lying on the other side removes the weight of the baby and really helps. Sitting on a birthing ball also helps. Since the baby has been engaged the pain isn't there all the time, but starts if I drive or sit in a regular chair/sofa. Hope this is helpful!
