Autumn/Winter Maternity Capsule Wardrobe?

I've got a few bits from my previous pregnancy but struggling everyday to put an outfit together. A lot of my old stuff is stretched. I need to get some more bits but don't want to waste my tight budget.

Can somebody give me a maternity shopping list?

well I'd like hints too as currently I have one dress and one pair of mat tights (for work, being washed an awful lot to get me through the week!) and a pair of mat jeans (which don't fit me anyway) and a few tops I mix and match.

I guess the main thing with capsule wardrobe is to make everything match - my colours I've got are red and black.

Maybe 2 dresses, 2 pairs of trousers, a hand ful of tops, a couple of cardi's, a few pairs of tights and a jumper might be sufficient? (says in hope as not wanting to spend too much). Depends if you have to work or not and be smart too I guess.

Sure. Some basic short sleeved tops. Black, grey and white, likely you'll get warm in jumpers i reckon. Some cardigans- you can wear them post pregnancy too and you prob have some already you can wear unbuttoned. Maternity Jeans, Maternity Leggings, Black Trousers, Wrap dress, a couple of jumpers/jumper dresses maybe one or two special tops for xmas etc.

Take a look at the following online who all do maternity wear at good prices.
H&M
New Look
Top Shop
Dorothy Perkins
Debenham Red Herring
M&S
ASOS

I'd go for pieces you can mix and match, so think about patterned tops but plain cardigans. Accessorise to the hilt to add a bit of variety to the outfits (our wardrobes have shrunk by about 80% it seems!), as it can feel a bit samey!

I hope that helps!

Coat-wise - I'm sure you'll be able to get away with a non-pregnant-lady coat as there are a lot of swing coats around and ponchos
(I've got the brown poncho and it's lovely)

I've also invested in a couple of jumpers from H&M - again non-maternity, just one size bigger than usual and I am HUGE and due in about five weeks so I'm sure you'd be fine with them too. I'm getting too huge to be comfy in jeans, but find that a maternity long, black jersey skirt does me nicely and can be dressed up or down.

In total for winter I've bought:
Sand-coloured cowl neck jumper H&M
Black polo-neck jumper H&M
Flat tan pull-on boots Next
Stripey, fitted long-sleeve t-shirt Dorothy Perkins
Extra-large non-maternity tights from John Lewis (not cheap - £7.50 each but colourful and very durable)

I already owned a couple of the waterfall-style cardigans which of course still fit, and a long black maternity skirt and black linen trousers which I bought at the start of summer. I was given a black pinafore-style dress which I wear with the coloured tights and a non-maternity top underneath (doesn't matter if it rides up).

HTH!!

wear leggings under your old dresses, hey presto they're now tunic tops. It has got me to six months anyway but may need to invest soon.

Gap is good for work trousers Smile

I basically have Angels1s list of stuff plus leggings.

Leggings, flat knee length boots, long tshirt and a cardi on top is what I will mostly be wearing (when not at work) this winter!

I have a lot of black basics which have got me through since late May and will carry on getting me through til December and beyond ...much of it nabbed in the Blooming Marvellous closing down sale

Long black skirt. Can be worn with long black dress and pre-pg blouse/jacket unbuttoned over it for work.

Black sleeveless maxi dress (which can be worn with long sleeved t shirts underneath - they don't have to be maternity ones)

Black short-sleeved wrap dress, always smart for work, can be worn over jeans too

Black long sleeved dress, can be jazzed up with jewellery and heels for evenings or worn with denim jacket and flat boots for casual look, does brilliantly for work with different cardies/jewellery

2 pairs jeans, 1 navy, 1 lighter denim

Black leggings, grey leggings, black tights

Black yoga pants, sports bra top and grey hoodie for exercise.

Tankini for swimming

Black and white long vests/secret support camis, worn as outerwear as well as underwear so I buy them in packs of 3

Black knee length boots, brown knee length boots.

With these I wear bright cardigans - usually waterfall style ones (either wool or cotton) - I have them in pink, royal blue, grey, green, red, brown, black and cream - luckily I was into waterfall cardigans before I got pg so I just added a few more. And lots of big necklaces.

At weekends I pinch DH's checked shirts and wear them with jeans and leggings.
I also got a few bright/patterned cheap and cheerful floaty Empire-line tops/dresses from places like H&M and peacocks which I wear over leggings and jeans with boots just to break up the monotony.

Coat is a lovely JoJo maman one - twenty quid from ebay.

It looks like loads but as a capsule wardrobe it has got me through late spring, summer, autumn and will take me into winter and am pleased with how it has all worked.

Enjoy your pregnancy!
