Hi
Does anyone know where i can get some pre sterilised bottles and teats that i can take into the hospital for after the labour.
I will be bottle feeding and i have to take my own for straight after the labour.

Thanks in advance

Any good maternity stores (mothercare, mamas and papas, john lewis etc).

Are you sure the hospital expect you to make up bottles? I thought that they supplied jars of milk and screw on disposable teats. Would be an infection control risk any other way surely?

Erm not saying there is infection control risk in pre sterilised bottles btw. I used to get them from boots. They were a bit leaky but otherwise ok

The hospital does not provide anything for bottle feeding mothers. Unsure if it is cost implication or another push towards the breast.
I will have a look in Boots and mothercare
Thanks xx

Do you have to sterilise? I never did as they didnt on NICU where my DD was. Good scrub in hot soapy water, rinses well and air dry.

Then again I trust my sink at home but wouldn't so much in a hospital (although I had to "sterilise" my breastpump kit in the hospital sinks) so yeah maybe pre sterilised bottles are the way to go!

You can buy the small glass bottles of SMA. They're exactly the same as you'd get in hospital.

I found them in my local Asda and I've also seen them in Mothercare. They're a bit pricey - I think I paid around £15 and you get 12 in a box.

Hope that helps.

In mothercare and some large supermarkets they sell the little made up glass bottles that they used to give you for free in the hospital. I think you can get a box of 12 for around £12-£15.

hmm, what does the hospital do if you cant breast feed and dont bring any milk then? Anyone know?

I had to go back to the labour ward a month after birth (retained placenta) and while I was there I was given bottles to give to my son. They were pre mixed with screw on pre sterlised teats, and especially designed for newborns. They even gave us some to take away when we left. This was 2008 at Kingston hospital.

I also bought pre sterilised bottles from boots, didnt work too well on my then one year old (leaky and he didnt like the teat despite happily using lots of other kinds) I cant imagine them working well for a new born as they are rather large.
