DP and I would love to go away when I start my mat leave. I am finishing at 32 weeks and am worried about what the best thing to do would be. I'd love to go to europe for a few days, in the car or on the train but am concerned about things going wrong or baby deciding she's on her way while were away from home. But then I suppose we'd have the same sort of issue if we had a city or spa break in the UK. Know I'm prob being silly but I don't know what to do. What do you think?

If you've had no problems so far, I can't see why you couldn't go.

Personally, I'd stick to UK breaks, but that's probably just me :)

I went to Spain when I was 32 weeks, got doctors note and European Health Insurance Card etc just in case. They didn't even ASK on the flight and all was absolutely fine. Personally I would do it as it was our last holiday as a couple for a while and it was bliss. I looked like a beached whale in my bikini but who cares!

Check with your travel insurers because some won't cover you after 28 weeks (in fact, a few that I looked at didn't cover pregnancy at all). Even with an EHIC you won't be covered for everything, and could potentially come home with hefty medical bills, should you require pregnancy related medical care whilst abroad.

That's the only thing I would be worried about really (although with a UK break, travelling from the hospital to your home will be easier)

I think M&S may cover you for as long as airlines are happy to take you (for some this is up to 36 weeks). Or it may just be up to 32 weeks.

But I agree with MrsChemist, you do need more than the EHIC.

The advantage of the UK is that if you do happen to give birth early, then it may be easier to get back home post childbirth (as long as you don't have to fly!).

Have a lovely holiday :)
