Hi all,

Wanted to share a positive experience that I wasn't sure I'd have!

DD is 5 and I had a not so great experience with her birth in hospital. Basically, I felt like I was a huge inconvenience the whole time.

I'd heard good things about the local mlu and thought I'd have a look. It seemed fine but I still had HUGE reservations about the fact that the ''medical'' side of things was missing. DH actually talked me round as he was keen for me to have a more positive experience this time and I am so glad he did.

The professionalism and care I received was wonderful. The midwives who attended birth were fantastic and gave me a renewed sense of faith in their profession. The unit itself was clean, comfortable and very calm, I had tons of assistance with breast feeding and never lifted a finger for 3 days, which was perfect.

DS is 6 days old and all is well x

Congratulations on your new baby!!! So glad you had a more positive experience this time.

I had DD in the Queen Charlottes birth centre 3 years ago & I too had a wonderful experience (only one night post birth stay though - how did you manage 3 days???). I felt very supported & cared for the whole time. It was really marvellous & I'm hoping for a repeat performance with this baby.

I was surprised to find that demand for MLU/birth centres wasn't much higher than it is.

Thats great to know. i had a crap time with dd1 and wanted better for dd2 (5 days old) so went for a home birth. was lovely being at home but probably would have appreciate the 'break' & bfing support in an mlu. i was hoping i'd sleep better at home (didn't sleep in hospital) but have barely slept at all anyway!

glad you had a good experience. it can be about more than 'one day out of your life'.

When I had my DD 3 years ago the unit was just about to become a MLU and was already running as one really. I had a really positive experience with one midwife who was there for me thoughout and the atmosphere was calm and relaxed.

Unfortunately, as I'm high risk, I can't go back to have DD2 there in Jan which is a real shame.

Congrats on the newbies ladies!

I was told I could stay as long as I wanted!
I know people will read this board who are undecided about what to do so I just wanted to let them know these units are really worth a look.

Congrats on the pregnancies and new borns, not a lot of sleep for us either Bumperlicious Grin
