My friend has just been told she has step b (she's 35 weeks pregnant)

the thing is she kissed my (16 month old) daughter on the lips about a week before she was told she had it and I was just worried that the bacteria could be passed human to human because I know it could be passed to her baby at birth.

Iv read that strep b van cause meningitis and septicemia?

Should I be worried.

Thanx

Don't worry - a lot of women (30% afaik) have it as a non-active infection in their vagina. She'll have had a positive vaginal swab, that's all.

Oh okay thankyou. Didn't want to ask her too many questions as she's quite worried about it and I didn't really know what it was. X

You can pass it on (the GBS site recommends washing your hands - and asking others to do so- for the first 3 months of a baby's life). The bacteria lives in the vaginas (and bowels?) of women and the bowels of men. It takes a little bit of poor hygiene after going to the toilet to pass it on
using hands.

Kissing should be fine, though Smile.
