Had a letter from Dr's asking me to come in for a flu jab (I have asthma) - can I have this when i'm pregnant?

Thankyou :)

Bump - ditto here!

I believe in USA it is routine.... However swine flu jab is a whole differant thing. The government want you to have it but they can not say what the effect is on the baby as it's a new type of flu and it's not been used for long enough for them to know any adverse effects. But as I say, normal flu jab in pregnant women is considered fine. I'm certainly no expert but that's my understanding.

Fairly sure my sister had it while she was pregnant and all was well.

It's recommended; in fact my GP sent the letter because I'm pregnant. Ordinarily people of child bearing age are considered healthy enough to withstand flu so don't automatically get asked to have one. Having said that like most of these things there's a pro-vaccination when pg camp and an anti one!!

'Standard' flu jab includes swine flu in the uk now btw, as it is always updated with the most recent strains

nunnie · 26/09/2010 18:28

It is now being recommended to all pregnant women, as this years vaccine includes swine flu.

I'm phoning about mine tomorrow - I've had flu twice and thought I was going to DIE when I had it, so the thought if having it whilst pregnant and not being able to kncok back Night Nurse, scares me!

PrivetDancer · 26/09/2010 22:08

When do they start dishing them out? I'm 32 weeks already and understand it takes a few weeks for your immunity to kick in after the jab, so if I don't get it soon there won't be much point!

DetectivePotato · 27/09/2010 10:02

My surgery are starting with their flu jabs in a couple of weeks. I have just had the swine flu jab so I'm not having the seasonal one this year as it contains the swine flu too and I don't want a double dose.

Ringing to book it now - Thankyou :)

I've also had letter, and am 19 weeks pregnant. Am unsure whether to have it as I very rarely get a cold/flu etc even where people re really poorly around me
