How long after c-sec can you lift your toddler?

Going to post this in Childbirth as well, and just created a separate post about my other question

Have to decide between VBAC and ELCS, (neither stands out in my case as overwhelmingly superior). Couple of questions I forgot to ask the consultant and would like to know the answers before I see him again.

How long after a c-section can you lift your toddler? I didn't have a toddler to wrangle when I had an emcs with DC1! :o

Sorry to post and run, but in the throes of moving house - eek!

For me, within a few days, BUT only with them helping IYSWIM, not a flailing stroppy one Grin

I had to help DD1 in and out of the bath and help her into the car, but not hoiking out of something. She was 21 months but in a bed, so that helped with not having a cot lift to do

I probably didn't lift DD for 2 weeks, but I did have a few problems with infections etc. When DH went back to work (2 weeks after cs) was having to lift/help her into the buggy, onto the loo etc. She would often refuse to walk down the stairs and I remember carrying her down on my back was much easier.

Thanks, everyone (last MN session before the move and not sure when I'll get back online!)

Hmm, I was lucky in that I recovered very well from EMCS with DD - but mustn't assume it would be the same again.

Ah yes, DD is 2.3 (will be 2.5 when next one arrives) and for the past two weeks has been in super clingy/mummy and simultaneously flailing stroppy phase. Good at climbing to where she has to go and listening to explanations, but doesn't understand enough not to throw a strop if upset. Food for thought.

And also some good tips about how to manage things, even if I try VBAC but end up with another sec!

Thanks for all your replies! :)
