I'm just so fed up, still feel sick most days at almost 22 weeks. Have been given a small amount of Cyclizine to take "ad hoc" which isn't helping because I can't take the 3 a day it says on the label because I don't have enough.

I feel worse when I go out because I get panicky (I am emetophobic) and the anxiety is making me feel sicker. I know there is nothing I or anyone else can do, I am just really fed up, I am now beginning to struggle with the school run. I just want to feel better so I can really start to enjoy this pregnancy and to not have to battle through every day.

Sorry to moan, just feeling rubbish and sorry for myself at the moment.

Poor you. Hope you get back on your feet soon.

sarahbuff · 24/09/2010 09:48

Sorry you're having a tough time :( I'm 33 weeks and still don't eat dinner most days because the all-day nausea didn't wear off until around 30 weeks, but still getting it in the evenings most of the time. Hope you start to feel better soon!

Rocklover · 24/09/2010 09:52

It's just thoroughly miserable isn't it? Not only that, but I have IBS so I have an upset tummy most days too instead of the usual constipation. I suppose I should be grateful that I can go to the loo, but having a gurgly tummy just makes the nausea worse.

Sorry you're feeling rubbish too Sarah, 33 weeks is great though, you have the finsih line in sight! Hope you feel better for the rest of your pregnancy.

Hi Rocklover - can you go back to your doctor for more Cyclizine and also to talk about how bad you're feeling? There may be something else they can do.

My morning sickness went at 14 weeks but I did feel shocking up to that point so I really understand how awful you must feel at 22 weeks.

I won't offer any advice about what you could do/take as I know how pissed off I was when people said 'have you tried ginger'. All I'd say is try to get loads of rest if you can and try to remember that it won't last forever.

Hope you feel better soon.

littleElif · 24/09/2010 09:54

I have been really sick with both of my DDs. vomitting only stopped at around 25 weeks (DD1) and 21 weeks (DD2). My GP offered acupuncture. I didn't think it would work but it really took the edge of the being sick. Was still sick in the mornings but was coping ok. Maybe this is something worth trying. an at least it does not have side effects.

Rocklover · 24/09/2010 10:01

Yes, I have been thinking about that LittleElif, my dr's surgery did mention it was something that may help. I think I just have been so busy battling my way through each day that I kind of forgot about it.

I think I will look up some practioners and see what sort of prices they charge, I think I am willing to try antything at this point.

waves I sympathis with you. I am 20 weeks now and still throwing up at least twice a day and feel rotten for most of the morning. I am on cyclizine 3 times a day but trying not to take it, I stupidly told myself the HG would have eased off by now but I think its here for the long haul :(

Rocklover · 24/09/2010 12:09

Ooh, Julez that's horrid for you. I feel like a right wimp in comparison because I am not throwing up (so far), just nausea all the time.

I am never going through this again (despite DP mentioning he would quite like another), I've had enough of it.

Is there any reason you don't want to take the meds?

Im already on Clexane and aspirin, just feels like im putting too much into my little baby if you get me. I do take it morning and night, but I have a weeks break without taking it before the sickness gets bad again and I start again.

This week, im on one a day, I take it as soon as I get up along with gaviscon (reflux) and 9 times out of ten I throw up 20 minutes later lol!

Seems to help if I try not to let myself get hungry. Its hard though, my throat is raw from the vomiting. I saw my dad for the first time in a few months last week and he said my voice had changed :( I hope its not permanent. Im like a little squeaky mouse lol x

Icedlemonmuffin · 24/09/2010 15:02

I've been on cyclizine since I was 10 weeks (I am now 23 weeks) and the nurse at the hospital said for it to work I needed to take it three times a day and not miss one. Think she said it needs to build up in your system. I was really worried about taking it but so glad I did, I am now down to one a day but there have been days where Ive had to take one in the afternoon. I do I feel alot more normal than I did a few weeks ago when it felt like the throwing up was never going to end.

This is my second pregnancy and hg was far worse the first time partly because gp didn't want me to take anything.

Hevster · 24/09/2010 15:25

38 weeks tomorrow and still on cyclizine, I was managing on 1 a day but back to 2 a day now and still chucked up this morning! I would def go back and ask for more pills unless there is any medical reason why you can't. I too had the acupuncture (my GP did it) and although it made me feel worse the day I had it I def felt better for a few days afterwards.
Worth a try!

Samraves · 24/09/2010 20:52

You are not alone, a couple of us on here are emetophobic too...

I have been feeling nauseous since right from the start and still feel ill now (at 32 weeks - sorry). But I am taking phenergan, one tablet at night and have been all the way through. It has really helped take the edge of things, so although I do feel nauseous a lot, I don;t feel as though I could actually be sick (most of the time - whereas before I took it I lost a stone where I couldn't make myself eat anything as I felt I could be sick any minute). It has meant that I can just about cope with the pregnancy.

Just because you aren't actually being sick, doesn't make it easier to cope when you are scared about the possibility! Go back to your doctors and make sure they sort out your medication. It is important you eat enough! Good luck, and hope things improve for you soon

I was exactly the same Rocklover! Waking up with stomach cramps and diarrhea every single morning at 5am until I was nearly 30 weeks pregs! But as you say, at least the finish line is in sight now. I was always constipated with my other pregnancies, so was also grateful to be "going"... sigh What we go through for these babies! :) Hope you start to feel better soon.

waves to rocklover. What samraves said about other emetophobics being out there is right - it's such a horrible thing for ANYONE to deal with, but for us this is a million times harder. I thought this experience might cure my phobia once and for all but if anything it's made it much worse Sad. I'm so sorry you're still getting anxious about going out and I totally understand - I'm now getting out most days but only for an hour or so and still need recovery time (today I'm useless and just slobbing on the sofa feeling really ill and headachey after managing to get to work for an hour yesterday - I'm so glad I went to work as I miss it so much but I find it all so much to cope with). I think taking 3 cyclizine a day would really help you - you've taken it before with no issues, and not only would it help the actual pg nausea, but if you're anything like me it also gives me confidence that it will help stop me being sick so I feel a little easier about getting out the house. Can you see another Doctor to get more? Just make sure you keep eating, drinking and resting too - as these things also make such a difference to how I feel.

I'm trying reflexology on monday to help me - I have a lady coming to the house to do it. It's costing me £30 for an hour for a home visit. I've had it in the past for hormone issues when my hormones went crazy and made me really ill for months when I came off the pill and it really was the only thing to really help. I too have considered accupuncture (I've tried it in the past with no massive help) but I didn't want to face having a treatment out of the house - so this reflexologist that comes to my house hopefully should be perfect - maybe you could look into something like that? I know it could end out being pricey, but if it works my thoughts are it'll be worth it, and in a few weeks I'll be able to apply for my health in pg grant and will use that for it. Do you take gaviscon too? That helps with my reflux a bit but it still gets really nasty sometimes - some foods seem to make it worse so I have to further limit my limited diet if I don't want a gurgly airy tummy :(

Thinking of you. xx

Rocklover · 27/09/2010 13:09

Thanks for the advice angels, sorry I didn't reply, but was at my parents this weekend. I had 2 very horrible journeys there and back felling very sick. Driving 183 miles twice in three days with a 5 yo passenger is not fun.

I had a nice weekend, but spent the whole time feeling anxious about the drive back which meant my Mum got very upset about me living too far away, bless her. I have to do the journey again in 3 weeks as dd needs to visit her dad in the half term.

I am looking into acupuncture, but reflexology sounds like a good idea as well, I will need to find out some prioes. Glad you managed to get into work the other day, that's a really positive step, hope things keep improving for you. Do update on how the relexology goes. x

hey rocklover - so sorry you had thar rubbish journey. I know your dad has been ill but next time could you at least meet them half way there? a 1.5 hr trip each way would be much better than 3 hrs each way. I'm not suprised you felt sick though - sometimes I feel sick just by driving into town.

I think things liek accupuncture and reflexology work for some and not for others - so it just depends on how it goes for you (and finding a good person makes all the difference). I had reflexology this morning and was very relaxing and I had such painful bits in my feet that relate to the areas in my body I'm really suffering with (eg digestive area). I hope it'll help but the lady is really busy so it's hard to get appointments with her. I do think that even a pg massage might help though - anything to relax and de-stress you will make you less anxious and everything is worse (including pg symptoms) when anxious - I'm amazed how much better instantly I was when not having to work. I can't wait to get back this week but not sure how I'll cope - I needed the whole weekend to recover from a short trip on friday.

nicky80 · 27/09/2010 18:11

I feel for you. I had severe nausea and vomiting from week 4 to week 17. I found the constant nausea to be the worst bit. I would lie on the bed at night and cry I felt horrific. I still heave now at 31 weeks when brushing my teeth etc. People say 'oh try ginger, arrowe root biscuits etc etc' but NOTHING works. To still have it at 21 weeks I would be feeling depressed too. Good Luck I really hope it eases for you sooner rather than later as it is sooooooo awful!

Rocklover · 27/09/2010 20:17

Thanks everyone on here for your replies, you are all making this so much more bearable. It's such a relief to be able to talk to so many people in the same boat!

I really hope that all of you who are suffering get better soon and in the mean time we just have to focus on what this is all for. That soon we will all have lovely little babies to show for our discomforts.

My little boy is kicking me every day and it does help to remind me of how worth it everything is, no matter how crap I am feeling at the time.
