MW did sweep yesterday and she said she could get one finger in and that it was soft but long?? Can someone tell me what this actually means?

Effacement is the shortening, or thinning, of the cervix. Like dilation, it begins before or during early labour. Before effacement takes place, the cervix is like a long bottleneck, usually about 4 centimetres in length. As effacement takes place, the cervix shortens, or effaces, pulling up into the uterus and becoming part of the lower uterine wall.

Your cervix needs to be soft and short, you're close but not quite there. Sounds like it won't be long Smile

Good luck Chelle. When i had my sweep MW said same. Had sweep on friday morning and Cx started on sat eve. Hope it works for you!!

ooh, anything yet Chelle? Am due to have my sweep this afternoon. With DS2 i had sweep on a Weds, bloody show on a Thurs and labour started on the Fri so am really hoping it gets things going for me!

Oh Chelle, how disappointing for you. I really thought the next time you came on the thread you'd be coming back with news!

Having a show is a good sign things are deffo happening though so it can't be much longer now.
