I'm 17 weeks. I have a friend who I love to bits but EVERY time I see her, at least two or three times she tells me "you're having a boy" and she makes a point out of putting HE in block capitals in emails when referring to the baby. We don't want to know the sex at the 20 week scan, so I have many more weeks of this and its really getting on my knockers. I don't want to 'tell her off' or make her feel bad I just want her to stop saying it. She can't see inside my uterus, she doesn't know so why does she keep on about it and what does it matter anyway. If I do have a boy she will say 'told you!' like she made it happen. Grrrr

I think I'd just ask her to stop in a light-hearted way- e.g. the baby can hear our voices now, better not let it hear that just in case it's a girl and gets a complex Wink

Sounds like she's really enjoying guessing. Does she have children of her own? I'd just smile sweetly and say something like

'yes that's what quite a few people have said, but my mum/gran/mil who is always right thinks it's a girl.'

or

'ha, ha, ha you're so funny - I hope you wont be dissapointed if it is a girl after all this'

Or something equally bland... You can also use it to practise your Zen face ready for when your DC is doing something VERY annoying but you don't want to show them that it's bothering you as that'll only encourage them more...

FWIW everyone has at least one or two friends like that. when i was pregnant with DS I used to do a short cut through a park and the local homeless bloke used to shout out - "it's definitely a boy you know"... until about the last 3 weeks when my bump was huge and he started calling out "it's the lady with the twins"!!!

Thats the funny thing - we both have toddler girls so I would have thought she's know better.

maybe she's projecting onto you her desire to have a boy... is she TTC and struggling?

redpickle · 22/09/2010 17:03

Ooh knitter you're good! TTCing and wants a boy!

I've got a friend like that. Up until about week 28 she was CONVINCED it was a boy and kept telling me so every time she saw me. Then she changed her mind and is now CONVINCED it is a girl. And again, tells me every time she sees me. I've pointed out that this way she'll be "right" whichever it is Wink. I'm finding it bloody irritating, but am trying to ignore it. And thinking about it, after DC is born (5 days and counting - COME ON LITTLE BABY!!) the fact that she'll be "right" whichever it is, will also probably annoy the hell out of me. And she probably won't shut up about it either. On well.

not that it helps solve your problem...
