I had an appointment with the Consultant yesterday and had a mini portable scan, I'm going in for a detailed scan today then seeing a doctor again. According to measurements and my dates I'm at 16+3.

There is a bleed behind my placenta and they're questioning if it's coming away.
I'm RH- which they've said is also an issue so I had an injection yesterday.

I've been told there's a chance my waters could break, if I have ANY bleeding at all, even spotting to go back in and be scanned.

I've been booked in for extra scans to monitor babies growth if I make it that far (28, 32 & 36 weeks).

They have said that everytime there's a bleed less blood gets to the placenta & baby so my baby could have restricted growth.

My head is all over the place..
Basically I can not think, so I was wondering if you were in my position what questions would you ask the sonographer & Doctor? I'm planning on making a list to take in with me.

Oh, there was also a 'blob' of jelly type sunstance when I went to the bathroom this morning which I'll mention later. I'm going in for 1:30

Oh, I'm so sorry you're going through this. I've not had an issue like this so I'm not going to be much practical help, but I really feel for you.

I suppose questions I might ask would include

  1. is there a way of scanning blood flow through the placenta / cord such as used for twin to twin transfusion?
  2. what can I be doing to help the situation, if anything?
  3. what is the likely outcome and what are all outcomes? (this might be scary but might offer you some sense of proportion / control)
  4. if there is an ongoing issue with growth at what point would you deem it less dangerous for baby to be early than remain inside ie when would you expect to perform induction / section?

Writing a list is a great idea. Forgetting is common even when such a trauma is not on your mind.

I truly hope that all will be ok. I'm sure others with more experience will be along shortly. x

Thank-you for your reply, I've written down your questions and will try and make sure I get full answers to everything.
I was very lucky that my doctor yesterday was lovely and really understanding (especially when I had to run off to vomit due to my hyperemesis - another reason for growth scans)
