This will be my 3rd SPD pregnancy, last time I went to the physio at 12 weeks and was on crutches by 14 weeks and they still wouldn't order me a girdle.

:(

my legs feel like they are splitting already at 9 weeks so I think I should just buy my own.

Any recommendations?

Thats outrageous that they won't get one for you.
Are you in the UK?

My GP referred me to physio at the hospital and she had a cupboard full of big velcro belt things, she fitted me with one, and that was that.

One of them was made by Emma Jane (who make maternity bras)

Here The nhs one I got was x3 as big as this though.

The only other one I have seen for sale is the 3m one which I think is more under bump support than anything else. But it looks tons more supportive than the Emma Jane one.

Here

Good luck.
Did your GP at least give you some decent painkillers?

toys r us do one i think. I got one from there 3 yrs ago. Think mothercare do them to. My docs didnt do anything for my spd with my last daughter even tho i kept tellin them i suffer from it. Goodluck with your pregnancy

Hiya,

I haven't been to see anyone this pregnancy,

last time the physio said my pelvis was out of line and a girdle wouldn' help, she gave me excercises and crutches but I ended up buying maternity tights too small and wearing them at night to try and hold my pelvis together. I even had DH wrapping my midsection up like a mummy at night to try and ease it.

No painkillers either, but I wouldn't be keen to take them TBH.

Hello everyone,
I am currently trying to get seen by a physio as my back/hips are agony.

I have recently moved house, gone from midwife who was quite happy to refer me but couldnt as I was leaving her area, to new GP who said nothing can be done to help as I have joint hypermobility and pyhsio would do nothing, to another GP who will refer me but isnt sure what they can do as im nearly 25wks and she thinks they wont really be able to help.
I am in agony. Cant walk/sleep/sit without everything hurting so much it reduces me to tears - have been doing some research and 'pelvic girdle pain' sums it up spot on.

I have been told paracetemol and early maternity leave are basically my options, neither of which are particularly helpful.

This is my first pregnancy, I feel like I'm falling apart/failing miserably Confused. I dont know what to do, any advice would be gratefully received.

Thank you lots, hope everyone else is holding together

lucky, thats rubbish, you CAN be fitted with a girdle if they bother to (!). Aphysio can also tailor excercises to suit your needs - these can relieve some of the pain and you can be prescribed crutches to help keep the weigh off your pelvic joints.

The GP can also give you pain killers.

If you are in that much pain please go back and demand to see a physio :(

hope you are ok (hugs)

Firstly I'd 2nd the advice & get yourself to a physio! I got some useful advice & exercises when I was PG. They didn't supply me with a belt but did recommend one. this one It did help during the day but was too uncomfortable at night. I used a large tubigrip round my hips/pelvis at night. Hope you get some help & pain relief. :(

Hi,
Are you in the UK? I was referred to a physio around 12 weeks and they gave me a support to wear but to be honest it was very uncomfortable and made driving very uncomfortable too. As I got bigger I hardly wore it. The physio did give me exercises to do and a crutch these helped more than the support. If I was you I would push for the physio at least someone would be keeping an eye on you and my physio was more helpful than the midwife!
Good luck
xx

Hi all

So far in my pregnancy I have had terrible sickness for about four months, I was signed off work with Coccyxdinia (back pain) I was then signed off with rupture in the placenta and told to rest, after this started my sciatica which has gone on now for a couple of months, I also have pelvic pain quite severe and cannot sleep properly, cannot sit for too long, I have had NHS physio who have me some stretches to do, I have also had private physio, soft tissue massage and more recently some acupuncture which I found quite painful.

Doctors tell you to take the good old paracetamol which doesnt really help once the pain kicks in.

I have found the more I rest my legs the less painful it is, the less I stand also helps.

Apart from physio there is nothing else that I could recommend with all these problems that I have experienced there is nothing in specific that has worked !!

Good luck, try a hot water bottle sometimes, I know its not the greatest of pain relievers, also going for a swim helps offloading some body weight.
:(
