Hi,

I've just been told I am measuring big for dates (measuring 29/30 at 26) and wondered if there is anything sensible I can do to keep an eye on this, I'm overweight but not diabetic and have only put on a few lbs this pregnancy (not through dieting or anything just lost my appetite) I wondered if cutting down on sugary stuff like fizzy pop would help, I am hoping to have a vbac and if I am having a large baby they hinted that they wouldn't be keen to let me try coz of the extra risks of rupture etc, just think it would be better for me and baby if I can deliver naturally specially as I have a 15 month old

How have you been measured to that size?

I ask, because fundal measurement isn't particularly accurate. Was it a scan? If so, were the measurements such that they will be doing further scans in run up to EDD to examine the likely fit between the baby's head, your pelvic capacity, and the presentation.

Loopymumsy's advice is very good.

There are AFAIK no sensible and reliable means to reduce fetal growth. The only ones I can think of are totally inadsquate diet lacking various nutrients, smoking like a chimney and incessant coffee. And I don't think anyone could ever recommend such a regime.

Thanks Loopymumsy, I know I haven't been eating particularly well as I feel full all the time so just tend to snack rather than eat and I've let tiredness put me off exercise,I know I need to make a real effort to get myself on track if I am to stand any chance of getting my wishes, I've put on 5lbs this pregnancy but its more to do with eating less than eating well, my previous c section was failed induction due to being induced at 38 weeks because of cholestasis and baby just wasn't ready to come out.
onimolap I've had a scan and fundal measurement, they said at 26 weeks baby weighs approx 3lbs which seemed well over what I expected, his abdomen was measuring 2 weeks ahead of my dates although everything else was on dates, my fundal measurement today was 28,, last week 29 but it varies on who does it so know its not that acurate, I'm being scanned again to keep an eye on his weight, I'm being monitored closely due to previous cholestasis and current fluctuating LFT's

I dont really think, anything sensible will make a difference to the babys weight.3 of mine were all 8-9 lb,and my last,i lost 2 stone before becoming pregnant, ate healthly and he was still 8lb 10oz,but i did get back in my clothes quicker lol..

My daughter was measured and they said she was 2cm bigger than her dates, and my dd told me,she put the tape measure down past her bump, more or less on her bits,so next time she was measured, she was spot on,dont know if it makes any difference where they put the end of the tape measure, but if they go too low,it would all cms on..:(
