Am 27 weeks with DC4, and I've decided that this is DEFINITELY GOT to be my last one. My pelvic floor is shot to bits, DD1 is nearly 12, DS2 is 8 this week, and DS3 is 18 months. I'll have given DH the same amount of children as I did for the ex, (i.e. 2 each,) and I'll be nearly 36 by the time this one arrives.
They've all been elective sections, and last time I seem to remember being asked if 'that was all they were doing', to which I said yes, because we did want this one, although we did end up conceiving a lot quicker than we thought would happen!
So, do you think they'll tie my tubes this time for me? Does anyone have any experience of this? I know I'm now classed as an 'elderly' mother, so do you think that will improve my chances? Any comments welcome!

I'm on my 3rd section & I got asked if I wanted it doing.

It is slightly more likely to fail when performed a during c-section but its not a major drop although its something to consider.

Yes sterilisation can be done at time of CS but it has a higher failure rate because the fallopian tubes are bigger. Also it is preferred that you wait till baby is older in case of possibility of cot death within first year. That said, I got sterisled when DD was 3 months old. Need to discuss it with your consultanat.

I think they will, but my mw said there might be doubts whether it would be completely succesful, due to post-birth body settling etc. (I'm in the same boat as you btw, going to have cs no.4)
Talk to your mw and see what she says (then come back here and tell me please:) )

I was sterilised (aged 40) during an elective c/s having DC4. I requested it as had DD1 (13), DD2 (9) and DS1 15 months who was born by emergency c/s. I was never told it was more likely to fail! I hasten to add that it didnt' fail as he is now 2! I did suffer a lot of pain once a month on the right side for just over a year - maybe that was something to do with it.

If they do it another time its keyhole surgery so not like being cut right open again.

Thanks ladies - the info about pain on the right side was interesting, Sky, I'd never considered side effects. I'll certainly let you know what they say chooks - I'm due to see obs/gyn on thurs...
