Does everyone wash new baby clothes?

I like the feeling of brand new unwashed clothes - won't the baby like that too? Surely if bought new no need to wash it?

cat - you wash most of them before the baby arrives!
Plus - as is demonstrated by the rest of the thread and the complaints about rashes etc - they are not clean!

I washed them all, and they looked so sweet fluttering on the line... sigh

I thought it was the law that all baby clothes had to be pre washed in Filetti

BertieBotts · 17/09/2010 18:21

Yes I agree with Starlight Grin

Then again DS must have very unsensitive skin. Plan was to use cotton wool and water for ever, if the tiniest sniff of a "sensitive" wipe went near him I was convinced it would damage him for life or something.

Then I ended up transferring in from home in late labour and XP brought the wrong bag. We had no cotton wool and so he went to the hospital shop and bought the full strength (not sensitive!) pampers wipes and that was what we used to change DS' first ever nappy when he was a few hours old. He was fine.

BertieBotts, I vowed never to use anything but cotton wool and water for DD. The first bath she had in the hospital the MW washed her in, shock horror, Johnsons! It really surprised me as I thought it was supposed to be the evil of baby products!

littleomar · 17/09/2010 19:00

no way - it's the last time they'll ever look clean.

Faaamily · 17/09/2010 19:03

Nah. Never bothered.

zinnia · 17/09/2010 21:21

Yup, everything except socks for some reason. Only just stopped, DD is 2. Am now pg again and to be honest think I will prob do again, frankly there is so much washing in this household that half a dozen sleepsuits is going to make jack all difference.

sarinha2203 · 18/09/2010 00:28

I wash them first, I have watched on TV where they ake clothes and it's not a very clean environment plus it goes through so many hands before it reaches the shops as well.

Preghead - I too iron muslin cloths, it makes them all nice and soft! :)

seaturtle · 18/09/2010 02:18

I didn't.S

wigglesrock · 18/09/2010 07:59

No, I don't, I take them out of the packaging, give them a bit of a shake etc but that's it. Ps I use baby wipes the minute we're out of hospital as well Wink

I did and I am usually a domestic slut!

I hate that new clothes shop smell anyway.

I find Persil and Comfort have no reastion with my eczema.
