Should I call the MW....again!

Im 33+1 and have a question on baby movement. I know this gets asked alot but this is slightly differant.
Baby has been quite busy for some time now. If I do the "10 moves in 10 mins" check my MW advised, I usually get a little flurry of activity, that I count as 1 movement, follwed by lots of little flurries of activities. I count each of these bursts as one until I reach the 10. I suppose if you counted them individually, there would be loads in the 10 mins. Since last night Ive noticed baby is still on the move but the activity is not as vigourous. Im still getting 10 movements in 10 mins, but they are single, very gentle movements and not a little flurry of activity. IS it normal for babies to have quiet days?
I hate calling my MW because I am a bit of worrier and Im beginning to think they are going to start remembering me for all the calls I make!!

I keep calling my midwife for reassurance ... I'd say if you're worried about something then ring them. It's probably the only thing that's going to put your mind at rest - even though it sounds like everything is ok xx

Call her.It all sounds ok to me too, but you are entitled to support. I wouldn't worry about how the midwives feel - A good midwife will always understand and it shouldn't be something you need to worry about. You and your baby are the most important people, not how the midwives feel ! Good luck !

I wouldn't call your midwife as if you have concerns about baby's movements as there is nothing she can do personally (except to reassure you). She will simply refer you to your daycare (or similar) where they will take a history, do your usual checks and put you on a CTG machine where they will monitor baby's heartrate and you will press a button whenever you feel baby move (which actually sounds like a lot in your case!)
Btw, it is not 10 movements in 10 minutes! No wonder you are worried! It is 10 episodes of movement in one day! And that is not set in stone, it is simply a guide. Babies do have sleep/rest periods. If I was your midwife I would reassure you that it sounds perfectly normal but that you could attend the daycare unit in the morning if you were still worried.
I would be concerned as a midwife if a woman on my caseload had repeated episodes of 'reduced fetal movements' which turned out to be fine, but not because she was an annoyance! Simply because she may have above average levels of anxiety, and there may be another root to her concerns.

reikizen - so glad you said that!! I paniced when I saw 10 movements every 1o minutes!!! Bloody hell I'd be exhausted!!!

I've been told 10 over the whole day too

saoirse86 · 14/09/2010 21:11

I've been told 10 movements in 10-12 hours by several different midwives, and so has my sister. If I called every time I didn't get 10 movements in 10 mins I'd never be off the phone!
I know it's a bit scary when they go quiet. I'm 38+4 and in the last few weeks she's gone extremely quiet compared to earlier in my pregnancy. I've been told that if I'm worried then just stop what I'm doing, sit down, have a really cold drink and wait 15 minutes. Then if there's nothing, try giving my belly a bit of a push to get her moving. If there was nothing then, then I should call triage, not just the CMW.
I honestly don't think you've got anything to worry about if you are still feeling movements but if you can't relax, you need to call the MW or triage.
