Was just wondering if anyone here had any experience of ante-natal depression or anxiety, and whether they had been signed off for it?

Everything just feels a little bit shit at the moment, and I think I could do with some time out, but cant really start materninty leave yet (Am only 30 weeks) but I also dont want the doctors to laugh at me if I tell him!

oh sweetheart, they won't laugh ((((())))
just go and talk to them. if you don't get the help you need, go speak to someone else. i know it's easy enough to say but go get the help you need Smile

AbiAbi I was signed off from about 28 weeks with dd2 (few years ago), as you described just felt shit, nothing I could put my finger on, felt sort of sick, had slight sore back, bit dizzy etc but nothing concrete or that showed up on blood tests.

GP signed me off immediately, no hesitation, at the time I was really surprised and grateful, please make the appt. Good luck, hope you start to feel better.

Thank you both.

I just feel really embarrased to go in and admit it, and I know I'll cry! Thank you both though, I'll book an appointment after lunch.

I went to see my doctor at 31 weeks and when she asked what was wrong I just burst into floods of tears. Was signed off until my official maternity leave was meant to start. Good luck.

I was signed off for it in early pregnancy, the Doctor was very paitent with me and signed me off right away. They won't laugh at you, it is a serious thing that can get worse if you don't rest now.

I had three weeks off and tbh they did me the world of good. I've been back at work since and have felt a heck of a lot better. I would always encourage someone to at least go and chat with the Doctor. I did feel silly doing it, but at the end of the day pregnancy is tough and sometimes we all need to take a time out. I for one am glad I did. Good luck with your appointment.

AbiAbi,
Please go the doctor and explain how you feel. I have also been signed off now till my mat leave starts and after only a week I feel more positive and less restless. I am almost 36 weeks and as the GP said she thinks women are under so much pressure these days that we actually forget we are growing a person and this little one is for life so take some time and your mind set will slowly adjust. You can see the changes your body is going through, unfortunately nobody can see the effects it has on us emotionally. You need a good chill and you may notice all those little niggles and feelings are not as bad. I never thought I would feel better and was afraid to finish too early as I would get bored. I can honestly say I am not bored and am glad I can drift through the day without any other thoughts than me and my impending baba. Good luck.

Go to the doctor they won't have a problem and will probably rather you had the time you needed.

My doctor is trying to sign me off for antenatal depression but I am self employed and need to work the SSP isn't enough.

It is better you get the time and support now than later so you have less chance of having post natal depression when your lo arives.

Goodluck x x x
