Horrid, horrid thrush

Found out I was pregnant yesterday and my major clue was the awful thrush I've got. I had it really badly all throughout my last 2 pregnancies, with nothing shifting it, only labour cleared it up.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this and has any tips? Last 2 times, GPs have given me all sorts of prescriptions to try and clear it with no luck.

I feel like crying knowing that I've probably got 8 months more of this horrid horrid feeling.

I'm hoping for a miracle!

I have also been plagued with it and, like you, I can't really shift it. One tip my mum gave me was to dose your bath with bicarb of soda. It might relieve the itching a bit.

The feeling of not being altogether fresh is very, very unpleasant.

have you tried taking pro-biotic capsules? Not the drinks - the capsules you can get from health food store? It will help your body fight the infection.

Much sympathy - it must be really awful. I'd take max dose of pro-biotics possible, daily and give it a couple of weeks. Perhaps you can get them on prescription??

there are some good books out there as to how to treat without drugs

I suffer badly with thrush all the time. No treatment the doctors give me works.

I found a trio of tablets worked for me when not pregnant, it was truely amazing to be without trush in years.

Unfortunately i can't use all 3 whilst pregnant. However i can use 2 of them which are Acidophilus capsules & garlic capsules/tablets.
I have found this doesn't work as well but is better than nothing.

I hope you can find something that can work for you as i know just how awful it is to have trush all the time.

I get thrush a lot as well and have tried to minimise sugar and simple carbs and have maxed out on pro-biotic tablets. I use the expensive ones from the health-food store because supplements from the supermarket tend to be less effective. Garlic is a good one too. The 3-day anti-fungal pessaries seem to work on mine in combination with the acidophilus.

I've heard that boric acid tablets inserted up the vagina can help as well as tampons soaked in a mild solution of tea tree. I'm really not sure if either of these is safe in pregnancy though.

Serendipity16 what are the trio of tablets you use when not pregnant? I'd love to know any tricks to getting rid of thrush!!!

Argh, me too. The doc prescribed canesten (pessary, not oral as that's bad for the baby). The instructions say to put it in when you're going to sleep, so that it has all night to dissolve in your vagina while you're horizontal.

Not so useful if you're getting vertical every hour to take a pee... the bloody stuff just comes out.

I've tried to courses of six tablets, and have given up.

Eating natural yogurt helps me, you could give that a try? Xx

serendipity16 · 14/09/2010 20:04

Bonners - With the 2 other tablets i mentioned before, i also took oregano oil tablets.
However its not advised to use oregano oil tablets whilst pregnant.

I swear by the 3 products together. It was fantastic to have no thrush after years of suffering.

LOVE my GP! She's given me a course of pesseries for the next month. If it's still bad after then, she'll do swabs, run detailed tests for diabetes then continue the pessaries for 5 more months.

But, she's not sure we'll crack it completely though. So, will try all the things you lovely people have suggested. Thank you!! xx
