Aching hips - is this normal?

Hi All,
I'm 36 + 2 and out of nowhere my hips have started to really ache. Particularly bad in bed last night. Anyone else experienced this at this stage? Is it just my lower body 'doing it's thing' in preparation for baby bunny's final journey?

If so, not going to be fun as I have two more weeks of commuting to work before I give up, and a nice heatwave to do it in.....

Yours perplexed, BR

Commiserations. I've had the same thing since about 20 weeks (28 now) went for physio and apparently its where the ligaments in your lower back have softened during the pg and the two halves are slightly out of whack. Nothing you can do I'm afraid (other than give birth!) I'm not sure why we feel it in our hips when its our backs though.

Try paracetamol, also I was told to do lots of pelvic floor exercises, and to lay flat with my knees bent and try to pull my bellybutton in to meet my spine.

Commuting until 38 weeks!? You are a far braver woman than me.

I've suffered from aching hips for years, regardless of whether I'm pregnant or not. Paracetamol does work for me, but I prefer to take New Era's Aching Leg/Elasto tablets which contain calcium fluroide, calcium phosphate, iron phosphate and magnesium phosphate. They're fine for pregnant woman and actually contain lots of things you need anyway. Otherwise try bags of frozen peas on your hips!

Try sleeping with a pillow between your thighs. Also roll over keeping shoulders and pelvis aligned when getting out of bed, rather than moving each bit separately.

Thanks for all the advice.... I'll try the paracetomol and pillow and see what happens.

Health food shops tend to have the full range of New Era products (look in the homeopathic section), I have seen them in large Boots and supermarkets but normally they only stock a small selection.

Tah!
