Another itchiness thread

Sorry if this is repeating stuff that has been discussed before but I have searched the old threads and can't find anything that seems to fit with my itchiness.

I have itching all over but worse on the backs of my fingers and hands although the itchiest area does seem to depend on where I scratch if that makes any sense. The itching on bump/legs I would expect from stretchy skin (34+2) but its my hands feet and arms that are driving me crazy!! I also have these little tiny bumps that seem to appear, they arent red and are only tiny although some (mostly on my fingers) are like little blisters. The bumps seem to be wherever the itchiness is worst, but do appear before I actually scratch.

I have mentioned it to my mw who wasnt all that useful and couldnt suggest anything to help with the itching. So far I have tried keeping well moisturised, bio oil, cocoa butter, E45 ani-itch (which helps a little), cold baths and cold flannels.

So... does anyone know what this might be? - I did think PUPP but my little bumps don't sound right for that?? And more importantly are there any magic cures for the itching??? Im not concerned about obs chole cos I don't think I'd have this rashy thing and the mw didnt seem bothered either.

Sorry for the long post - I'm desperate!! Blush

i had it in my last pregnancy (amazed not to have it this time) and once OC was ruled out (they should do a blood test for your liver function and I would ask for 1 if not done already) then it's a case of coping. My GP prescribed piriton which helped me get some sleep but apart form that the only suggestions were adding bicarbonate of soda to a cool bath (also helps chicken pox) and keeping moisturiser in the fridge so it's cold and preovides instant (short term relief)
sorry not to have a magic cure

Thanks Hevster, I know I am clutching at straws for some magic cream!!

Did you ever find out what the itching actually was? I guess it doesnt really matter but I feel like I need to know if that makes any sense?

I have heard loads of conflicting things about antihistamines - whats new in pregnancy though hey!! I might give that a go.

No one ever got to the bottom of my itching (and I have a really thorough GP) it was just put down as one of those pregnancy things, skin stretching, hormones etc which really doesn't help Sad but you could try and see your GP incase there is something they can do to help, My GP and consultant were both quite adament that piriton was ok in pregnancy but it's a very personal choice as to taking meds when pregnant or not.
really hope you feel better soon

You need to test for uric acid levels in your blood. Very important, don't put it off.

PaigeTurner · 12/09/2010 21:25

I had scabies once and the itchy bumps were mostly on my hands/between my fingers and toes plus under my arms. Not suggesting it could be this but maybe a visit to the GP would rule it out?

xMrsSx · 12/09/2010 21:43

I did look at scabies PaaigeTurner but my bumps arent red and definatley come and go so I dont think it is that. I am seeing a diff mw tomorrow so might see what she thinks.

I suffer from this too! I did in my last preg too. I live with an ezcema sufferer so steal a bit of his moisturiser to help but not sure there is anything really causing it other than general pg stretching, overheating etc. Its my feet mainly but also belly, boobs and hands too and is MUCH worse at night when I get tired and can't sleep. I always just assumed as it clearly wasn't OC that it was just another pg issue I would have to put up with!

sorry - i know that's not any help at all but just thought you might want to know that you are not alone!

xMrsSx · 12/09/2010 22:09

Thanks ginger, it does help! And if I do manage to hunt down that magic cure I will let you know!!! Grin

I've got this too - 35+6 and have had it for a week. Just been to the GP this morning who has given me a prescription for piriton and cortisone cream but has also booked me in for bloods to check liver function. Everything I've read on this seems to indicate that a rash isn't present if it's something to do with the bile levels, but we'll see what the results say. So far, (not yet having tried the antihist's or new cream) I've found Oilatum in my bath followed by a very liberal application of E45 emollient cream helps a bit. It's horrid though, I find it very very hard to ignore the itch! Thank god I'm on mat leave now so can wander around with no shoes on.

Bumping for magic cream please?

tallwivglasses · 14/09/2010 01:25

Calendula (made from marigolds). Weleda do it - it's called calendulum I think.

Not sure if it'll help but it's my magic cream of choice.

trufflesbum · 14/09/2010 11:39

Hi MrsS,
I've got what sounds like exactly the same thing. I've had it on and off for a fair few years and have been back and forth to the docs many times. I still have no idea what it is, but Hydrocortisone cream was recommended... And works!! I still get flair ups, but the magic cream takes away the itching.
You can buy it over the counter, but it's a steriod cream, so don't know whether it's safe if pregnancy. I'm only 5 weeks, so haven't had to find out yet! I'll be lost if I can't use it though.
Good luck, and hope you get some relief!
