I found out only 2 days ago that I am pregnant with our 2nd child. It's very early days as I'm still not technically late yet!

Anyway, with my first pregnancy I developed SPD at 18 weeks and whilst I was not on crutches etc I was fairly immobile.

So, I've had a busy day out with family etc but have been feeling ok if a little nauseous at times but now I'm lying on the sofa this evening I can feel the tell tale signs of SPD.

groan surely it can't properly kick in this early?

I'm hoping i've just done a bit too much and it'll give me the warning I need to be a bit more careful with things and I'll be fine again tomorrow..

Its a bit unbelievable but I had round ligament pain 2 weeks before a missed period!

I was on crutches by 14 weeks with my 3rd pregnancy.

Now on my 4th at abou 6-7 weeks I had the signs, pulling in my groin, inability to move easily in bed, but its settled down over the last week.
Maybe its that first burst of hormone?

I'm fully expecting to have it bad in a month or two but 6 weeks is a bit daft!!

Yes it can. However, after having raging SPD with my first pregnancy, and getting clicky hips and SPD pain before I even took the test with my second, I can happily report that it was nowhere near as bad second time around. There were times before 16 weeks when I thought I was in for the worst again, but then it always seemed to resolve itself overnight whereas before I would wake up in as much, if not more pain than I had when I went to bed. All is not lost Smile

Morning all, I'm feeling much better this morning so think it was mainly because of the busy day out and listing my DS too much (he's 4, nearly 4 stone and nearly 4ft tall!!).

Think it was a little wake up to say, come on you are pregnant, just think about what you are doing now.

I hope to god I don't get it as bad as last time, not that it was the worst I've heard. I was signed off from 23 weeks with chronic rib pain tho, something else I hope I don't get, so maybe because I was resting more with that stopped the spd getting tooooo bad!.

TotorosOcarina: do you work, if so, when did you tell people, surely they started asking questions with your lack of mobility even if you delayed the crutches till 14 weeks.
It's one thing thats on my mind as I fully plan to ask for a disabled space at work to make it easier getting out of the car (i'm 6ft 2 so it's fun anyway but with spd...), but hoped not to need to ask until 12 weeks.

Can anyone recommend a pilates or something dvd to help prevent/ease the spd problems?

pilates definitely helped, but make sure you have a teacher who can tell you alternatives to certain exercises for when you are pregnant. Or a pregnancy dvd. I was able to keep going to my usual pilates class until 20 weeks this time around and I really felt the benefits. For me, my issue this time was a very loose sacroiliac joint so anything that kept my glutes toned was of benefit. Even tone-up-type shoes. And a memory foam mattress topper was a godsend.

I did get a pregnancy pilates dvd but never used it, so I don't know if it's any good. It had a woman in green on the front.

I already have orthotics which I had fitted by my chiropractor, in anticipation of pregnancy/spd issues but also to address back issues. She seemed to think these would be as good as the tone up trainers as she thinks they work on the same principle of good arch support/alignment.

I've just ordered a serola belt in prep as the belt I was given when I was last pregnant is pretty bulky, like a corset and would be fairly obvious under clothes. Whilst I'd be happy to try this when I'm much bigger, if things kick in before my bump really starts I want something more discrete..

I am going to have a look for a pregnancy pilates dvd but concerned some moves might be a no no for spd...

Feeling a little sore again this morning sat at work and whilst I'm trying not to worry about it, I'm starting to feel anxious about things to come..
I envy seeing pregnant women carrying on as normal bar having a bump. tries to stay positive

Hi all,

I suffered badly with SPD when I was pregnant with my 1st. I am 6wks pregnant currently and am sure I am having twinges of spd as walking is quite painful and certain positions are making me quite sore.
When pregnant before Docs gave me a pelvic belt to wear and it was so big and bulky Cazzr, what is the serold belt?
Good luck everyone. xx

I was referred to an obstetrics physio by the midwife & GP. I saw her 5 times I think. She showed me exercises to do with a gymball which really helped. (that and a LOT of pelvic floor exercises.)

I had "mild" spd starting at around 20weeks, not looking forward to it again with the next one.(not pregnant yet though!)

Cazzr · 17/09/2010 11:01

Emmywoo: serola belt details here: www.appliedbiomechanics.co.uk/.

I've ordered and received mine, very quickly too (next day). Not wearing it yet but it looks a lot more comfortable than my 'nhs corset'. Time will tell if it's any good, but lots of spd sufferers recommend it.

My symptoms seem to have settled down a bit now that I am being careful about certain things. I pray I don't get it too bad this time.

june2009, I saw a physio ONCE in my last pregnancy and she just gave me a belt and told me to practice my pelvic floor exercises religiously.
I see a good chiropractor tho and she seems knowledgable about spd so fingers crossed i'll have help there.

My one issue with a gymball would be getting one big enough (and then storing it!) as i'm 6ft 2 with a bit of a dodgy knee.
I can imagine going "ouch" then "wee" as I bounce off backwards and end up like a turtle on my back unable to get up! LOL
