anyone recommend nappy rash cream?

I know this isn't the right place to put this request but can't find a nappy/wee and poo thread. Am stocking up on the boring things I will need - nappies, etc. Anyone recommend a nappy rash cream we can have in just in case? I hate sudocream and how you can never wash it off your hands.

Bepanthen during the day, Metanium at night and for teething times. Don't like Sudocrem at all.

Our LO had the worst, most skin irritating poo when he was newborn and ended up with such bad nappy rash that his little bottom was red raw.

HV recommended Bepanthen and it cleared it up. For our LO it is magic.

Only thing with Bepanthen is that it seems quite difficult to get hold of a reasonably priced large tube at the moment.

agree the weleda nappy creme is very economical. I use only a little amount when dds bum is red and there is still plenty left in the first tube I bought (she*s 9 months now).
I only use wipes when out and about and at home I use cotton pads, warm water and a drop of weleda calendula baby lotion to clean her bum, sometimes camomile tea instead of water.

Sudocrem is a good preventer for DD. For when prevention didn't work, metanium with a slick of bepanthen on top was the only thing that cured her sore bottom. Tried loads of "natural" products, but all of them failed to keep nappy rash at bay, a few even seemed to trigger it.

Also, with DD, drying really well after a change was key - so I kept a flannel for this purpose. Pampers wipes were crap for her - used Sainsbury's own brand unfragranced, or just water and cotton wool when she was very small.

Zinco spray

We never really used anything until much much later. You may find the same, so I wouldn't buy anything. As regards any other toiletries, the recommendation is that you don't use anything in the bath at all except water.

thanks - so just need to stock up on cotton wool?

For at least the first 6 weeks just cotton wool and warm water are all you need for everything. No toiletries for baths etc. My DD was so overdue she looked liked a prune and a little bit of olive oil did the trick!

I have a friend who's baby had quite bad excema and swore by plain olive oil. Calls it the nectar of the gods for nappy rash. Probably cheaper than anything in the shops!

sudocrem I found too sticky for bad bums and pulled at the skin, making it bleed, so switched to zinc and castor oil, which I found much gentler.
