Im 17+4 now and have hyperemesis. Been trowing up since i was 3 weeks pregnant. By 9 weeks it was 30+ times a day and they admitted me for drips.Baby is fine though. I am still vomiting three times or so daily. :)

ShowOfHands · 10/09/2010 11:54

Your baby will be fine. Smile

It's a nasty description, but your baby is parasitic so will take everything it needs from your reserves. Which of course makes you feel so much worse.

I don't know how long I survived on crisps for but it was months not weeks.

Have you seen your GP?

TotorosOcarina · 10/09/2010 12:19

My mum told me that when she was pregnant with me she was sick a few times a day, every day and couldn't keep down a meal. The only thing she could eat without throwing up was ice.

By the time I was born, she weighed less than she did when she first got pregnant, but I was perfectly healthy.

Still worth getting yourself checked over though, just to see if there's anything a midwife can suggest.

Try not to worry, your baby will take what they need from you, it is the mother that will suffer, not the baby.

I am pregnant with dc3 and was admitted for emergency surgery at 20 weeks, I was in hospital for 9 days and during that time ate nothing. When I returned home I had lost 1.5stones. However, baby seems fine and in fact I am having a growth scan in 2 weeks as she is measuring too big!! Try not to worry just eat what you can manage and try and keep fluids up.

MaryMungo · 10/09/2010 13:04

I had hyperemesis with my last pregnancy to the point I lost two stone and only just managed to get back to pre-pregnancy weight by delivery. DS was born at normal weight, and was perfectly healthy then and still is two years on.

TotorosOcarina · 10/09/2010 13:07

Thankyou for the reassurances.

I was addmitted with dyhydration with my last pregnancy so will have to just keep trying with small sips of water.

I had hyperemesis with my last pregnancy until 20 weeks and lost lots of weight. DS was born healthy and robust and still is 2 years on. Try not to worry and just eat what you can.

becstarlitsea · 10/09/2010 13:16

I had hyperemesis with my DS - god it was horrible, you have my sympathy. Like you I could only eat crisps and they only stayed down occasionally. I vomited round the clock - including through the night. DS was born normal weight and super healthy and is still (aged 4) in what I can only describe as 'rude health'. I did try to sneak a multivit and omega oil supplement in between crisps and sometimes kept them down. If I'd known what a smartarse he was going to be I might not have bothered with the omega oils (joking... I think!)

My friend was hospitalised due to constant sickness. She lost a lot of weight and was incredibly ill well in to the pregnancy. She gave birth to a health 10lbs 4oz baby 4 years ago!!!

Hello, I'm Lucinda from the Hperemesis thread - sorry to hear that you feel so vile, I just happened to see your post. I can only add to what others have said, but don't worry at all - you have to be sick to the point of serious dehydration before it would have any affect on your baby. I had a run in with Hyperemesis myself, and had an eight pounds seven ounce girl.Shock and that isn't unusual. Just make sure that you are keeping liquids down. Almost certainly it is just nasty M/S and will go off in due course, but in the unlikely event that it doesn't, go to your doc for safe meds and we on the Hyperemesis thread are al; here for you. By the way, I'm not 'Ginger Biscuiting' you, but have a try at mint tea. Don't worry too much about a balanced diet, just eat what stays down (if anything) never mind if people disapprove if you have to live on coke and salt-and-vinegar crisps for a little while...Wishing you better soon.

Hey, sorryTotoro,Blush didn't realise that you are an ex sufferer of Hyperemesis - just reading your other communication, realised that you had it before to have to go in for I/V so can only reiterate here - if the worst comes to the worst and you feel in the need of moral support, do call in on us at Hyperemesis Awareness.
