Maternity Things

I've been looking around for a maternity pillow and I can't seem to find any that are less than £48. Is this what they generally cost or am I looking in the wrong places?

Also, any experienced mums, when did you start buying things like maternity pads and lanolin? I keep seeing them, but am only 25+4 so not sure if they are worth stocking up on just yet.

i would buy them if they are on offer. Not sure about the pillow as I just used a normal one.

Got mine in Mothercare for £34. I think they are generally quite expensive as they have the word "maternity" on them! I have found mine quite useful as it helps prop me up when I have to sleep upright and it gives me extra support on our too squidgy sofa, but on the whole I found that I get more use out of the small wedge pillow I bought for £10 - also in Mothercare. Sliding that under the bump at night makes a huge difference.

I got mine in Mothercare for around £30.

Hi,
I got to the point that I was so uncomfortable sleeping that I was ready to throw money at the problem (I had only seen pillows fotr £40+ too). I wanted a pillow I could use to help me sleep but that I could also use for nursing when baby arrives.
Went to Mothercare and found a perfect U shaped one for about £23. It is called the Multipurpose Support Pillow. I am really pleased with it - it does the job really well.
Hope this helps.

ebay

I don't know how good these are because they are rectangular. But I am considering getting one because maternity pillows are expensive.

it might be too late? i got one early on, but by 7 months it wasn't enough nd i just resorted to ordinary pillows for support

thanks all. DH braved Mothercare with me and we found one for £30. It has made a huge difference.

Wherever you go - do not buy one from maternitypillow.co.uk. They have no phone number on their site and seem to be in the habit of sending a cheaper version/not sending them at all. Sadly I didn't read the numerous reviews before I bought from them. They sent me a cheaper version and then wouldn't answer any e-mails/letters. They also rent TENS Machines and the reviews I have read are not favourable!

I bought a Lulla Luna maternity pillow from www.buyorganics.co.uk. Definitely don't do this! £72 with slow delivery, no response to e-mails, a phone number that doesn't work and an absolutely crap quality pillow with threads having loose and the husks looking likely to escape into the bed.

I got a refund (after much to-ing and fro-ing) and bought a Theraline Big V Maternity pillow from John Lewis as it was substantial in the way that others like the Dream Genii didn't seem to be. I have a problem with my lower back / pelvis and the Theraline is fab, really supportive and stops my back collapsing down. I paid £39 and that included free delivery from JL within a couple of days.

'threads having loose'? Hmm

'threads loose' I meant!
