I have done a bit of google work, and can't find a site that has much detail on a paticular finding on a scan.

Don't know where else to look.

Thank you

Can I ask what particular thing you are trying to find out about?

Is this for yourself? Do you really want to do this? I sent myself slightly mad trying to interpret further (seeing as I am not a sonographer/OBGYN I think I should have left well alone)

If a growth scan, you may find this helpful, a link I saved after my 20 wk scan when I was trying to figure out why one measurement was not bang on the middle of the average scale when the others were...which was, looking back, stupid of me

Sorry should ahve given more detail I think.

On 20 week scan the babies left renal pelvis was dilated by 6mm (just over the normal range), so was told needed re scan at 32 weeks, but was told by the sonographer at the time that the guidelines were changing in August so had I presented for my 20 week scan in August, then I wouldn't have needed a re scan as 6mm would be in the normal range then. So I never googled or looked it up, and was probably what some would say ignorant to the fact that it might actually change.
Went for my 32 scan on Monday and it is now 14mm so is over double the size and the sonographer said it is quite rare to change that significantly and to only be present in one kidney.

Anyway went to see Consultant straight after, and she was to be frank useless, she never gave me any information about what happens next or how it will be treated once he comes into the world. She just said it looks like a blockage and to make appointment for another scan in 2 weeks and come back to antenatal clinic after. Went to make a scnan and was refused one as there was no need to have another. Went back to antenatal, and the receptionist spoke to another consultant and he said just come back in 2 weeks and they will decide what happens next then.

So wanted to try and get a bit of information as 2 weeks seems a lifetime away.

On my notes it says there is evidence of Hydronephrosis.

Nunnie,

Hydronephrosis basically means that a kidney is swollen, due to a kink or blockage. In your case it is only one kidney, so it will be treatable. This might mean that your baby needs some form of treatment after it is born, but NOT necessarily, all might be okay by the time it arrives.

We have had several scans now and our baby has abnormal kidneys (amongst other things). I can imagine how scared you are. However, something we have struggled to get our heads round, is that telling you to come back in X weeks for another scan seems to be routine - seeing how things change (or stay) helps them to get a better picture of what is happening and of whether any treatment might be needed.

If it would help at all to contact me direct, please do.
