would you do it? Was planning to take 11 yeat old daughter for birthday treat at the weekend, but someone told me today they couldn't believe I was thinking about it. I'm 17 weeks. I can usually keep upright on the ice, but I'm no expert. I hadn't even thought about it. Am I being really stupid to do it?

Don't know because I am a rubbish ice-skater but I think I would worry about some idiot skating into me and knocking me over. It doesn't matter how careful you are, you can't control what everyone else is doing. I also think if I was being extra-careful I would be likely to fall even harder than if I was just gliding around normally.

ILoveDonaldDraper · 08/09/2010 14:38

I wouldn't!

i did when i was about 6 months, not sure i would do the same but i was ok.

It's like going horse riding. A lot of women (including a friend of mine) keep riding while pregnant without incident and are completely fine.
It only takes one time though.

I personally wouldn't chance it . Can't you take her anyway and get someone else to go on the ice with her?

Why not?

japhrimel · 08/09/2010 16:35

I wouldn't. I think it comes under something likely to make you fall over, especially when you factor in your LO and other people bumping into you.

If you were an experienced skater doing gentle work on a private/professional rink, you'd be unlikely to fall - just like an experienced horse-ride or cyclist taking it easier than normal.

But in your circs...wouldn't do it TBH.

I would, in fact I've been thinking about the best way to tackle it this winter!

Have been ice skating since I was ten and have never been knocked over by someone else - just fallen when trying to do something generally silly.

BUT it does happen and when it does, it tends to be people you know who aren't cognisant of your personal space.

Would suggest taking her to a quiet rink (if possible) at a quiet time i.e. the middle of a schoolday! And don't try to do any jumps, obviously.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I think I'll watch and get husband to skate around! Unless it's really quiet.
