Worried but don't know how to contact the community midwives

I am 5/6 weeks and had a small brown bleed a few days ago, and another one today. I didn't have this with my last pregnancy and I'm starting to worry.

Also, by this time in my last pregnancy, I felt like shit, and had loads of symptoms. This time I feel fine.

I don't know how to contact the midwives, so should I go to see the GP or go to the local walk in centre? Can they realistically do anything for me?

Has your local hospital got an Early Pregnancy Unit?

I would give them a call. I did that when I had bleeding in early pregnancy. Otherwise go to your doc and they can refer you.

I hope it works out okay x

Hi MrsChemist, you should see your GP, try and get an emergency appointment for today.

They can take bloods and an early pregnancy unit can carry out a scan, although you may have to wait for a scan.

Having said that, many women bleed during pregnancy and there is no problem - breakthrough bleeding for example - so try not to worry too much (easier said then done I know).

If you get any severe pain, shoulder pain, sickness, high temperature, heavy bleeding, then you should go to hospital.

I would contact either your gp who might refer you to the hospital or some hospitals have a early pregnancy unit that you can go to, but i know my hospital will only see you if you have been referred from gp.

Also to put your mind at rest bit, if its brown blood it's old blood so it may be just the baby implanting into you, but its best to get checked anyway Smile

To be honest there's probably not much they could do - its likely to be too early to see much on a scan. Give your local early preg unit a call, or NHS 24 they should be able to advise. Good luck

I do have an appointment with the midwife tomorrow (booked through my GP surgery) so I'm wondering if I should just wait until then.

Oddly enough it's the lack of symptoms that bother me the most. I just don't feel pregnant the way I did the first time Sad
I just feel normal.

MrsChemist - it is very early to be having pregnancy symptoms and not every pregnancy is alike and you may not get any sym, ptoms.

I do think you should see your GP and get a scan booked at the EPU.

Aye, I'll wait on hold call my GP surgery and get an appointment for today (I'm very lucky that it's easy to get an emergency appointment here, even if I do have to wait on hold for 15 minutes)
