Felt fine all day - a little tired but nothing unusual.

Went to get into bath with Jess about 20 mins ago and got sharp pains in lower abdomen. Thought nothing of it, got in, and again it happens.

Been on and off since.

Baby still wriggling near top of bump....

Where are the pains, more precisely? Sides? Middle? Very bottom of abdomen?

I had really nasty round ligament pains with my last pregnancy, which were sharp pains in the "corners" of my lower abdomen. Really nasty. Generally came with exercise. Just one of those things.

Prob absolutely fine, but if you will stress about it give your maternity ward a ring for reassurance.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 01/09/2005 19:49

right at the bottom where the MW usually feels for the head, anthough head not engaged yet....

Me too NQC - toward the end I'd get up in the morning and they were excrutiating and I thought I was in labour (even though they were not really contractions at all). Right at the bottom of my abdomen under the bump - really, really sharp pain.

Sounds similar.

dizzymama · 01/09/2005 19:50

I used to get them too, especially when I did something like get into the bath / walk quickly upstairs etc.

teeavee · 01/09/2005 19:50

I would advise you to contact midwife - even if it's nothing, please don't take any risks. I don;t know how far gone you are, but good luck, andlook after yourself, it's important.

NotQuiteCockney · 01/09/2005 19:52

Could be SPD?

I'd talk to a midwife.

Did you have a section last time? If so, is the pain on the scar?

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 01/09/2005 19:53

nope no section - had my appendix out at 17 weeks but its not even close to the scar.

its easing off a bit now, but baby is giving me hell!

I am struggling a bit JM with pain from kicking and general shooting pains etc. etc. Keep gasping and scaring people.

Don't need a POO do you?

fisil · 01/09/2005 19:54

how far on are you?

I had this at 39 weeks. It was just as you described. Eventually it was more on than off, and I had to lie down. I rang NHS Direct and they said to either see my GP or go straight to maternity unit. My GP wouldn't come out to me (I was home alone and couldn't stand up, let alone get out of the door to the surgery!) and the maternity unit said they were very busy, try the GP again. While I was trying the GP again my neighbour came home and I banged on the window so she drove me to the GP (very excited - thought she was going to deliver the baby there and then). But I knew I wasn't in labour, and the GP did all the usual checks and asked if I'd done anything physical. I'd potted out some plants! So I was sent home to bed with a hot water bottle and painkillers. And sure enough the pain went away after a few hours.

So I would say the choice is yours - you could call NHS Direct/maternity ward and have all the drama, or you could go to bed with a hot water bottle. When the same thing happened a fortnight later (yes, I was pg for a very long time) I thought to myself: I did something physical (pick ds1 up or something equally tiny), and I know what labour feels like and this isn't it, so I just went to bed with painkillers and a hot water bottle. But if you have even the slightest inkling that it could be labour, I'd ring.

Thomcat · 01/09/2005 19:57

I get low pains when I've over done it, or when I've been sat down for too long and then get up.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 01/09/2005 19:57

doesnt feel like labour.... not that i know what real labour feels like! (induction and epidural with jess)

MP - been for a poo just before pains started

maybe i just need to rest.... ive told dh that ill keep an eye on it and if it gets worse, we'll make a call!

could've been the getting in the bath action ...

... or the pooing!
