Miscarriage rates after CVS

Does anyone know how to find out a hospital's m/c rate after CVS? I need to have a CVS done as my husband has a chromosomal translocation. I am keen to find out stats on m/c rates or on number of CVS conducted by hospital to choose a good place with experienced consultants.

Do you live near London? If you do I'd really recommend the Fetal Medicine Centre. I think they will quote a 1% rate but it is alledgedly much lwer. Good Luck.

I believe that the rate of m/c is related to the experience of the consultant doing it.

So, similar to tvfriend's recommendation, I'd suggest the Fetal Medicine Centre. That is the private centre for the neonatal unit at Kings, which is the world leader in neonatal medicine.

However, if that isn't an option, I'd just look for good recommendations for neonatal care. I'm afraid I don't know where to find the stats though!

Good luck.

I think you need to ask the consultant TBH as the MC rates vary from one doctor to the next afaik.

The hospitals may have patient information leaflets if you go the maternity ward information on the website.

For example - RBH leaflets

But the RBH info only says the standard "CVS has a miscarriage rate of between 1 in 50 and 1 in 100 or 1-2%" with no specific info.

Another vote for FMC here - had prof Nickoledies (sp?) do mine - figured if I was going to let anyone stick a needle in me & bump it would have to be him!

thanks for your answers! I have now booked with the Fetal Medicine Centre as it seems that all info in the public domain just gives overall averages of 1-2%. FMC seems the safest option. Just hoping I will still be pregnant by then... (we have a chromosomal problem and this is pregnancy # 5 after 4 m/c...).

Wishing you all the best screamingbutterfly. Hope this pg is the one for you

I have a balanced chromo translocation and have had 2 cvs's. It is such an incredibly stressful time, I really feel for you.

My last cvs was done at FMC. I travelled for it due to placenta being in an awkward / inaccessible position and being unable to have done at my regional service. Prof Nicolaides will perform procedure trans abdomonally or cervically so you are more than likely to be able to get done on the day/ not be sent back home ( which is horrid after you've psyched yourself up and wrestled with all the issues around it)

Anyway, am now expecting baby no 3 any day now, after much heartbreak.

All the best
