I'm ill :-( and feel guilty about not going to work

I've got a raging sore throat and generally feel bleugh! I've telephoned work to tell them I won't be coming in this afternoon but I feel so guilty!

I'm 27 weeks and work is starting to get tougher let alone feeling ill as well. Why do I feel so guilty?! I know I shouldn't, this is only my 2nd sickness day throughout this pregnancy. I hate the thought of people at work thinking 'it's only a sore throat'. Please tell me to stop feeling so guilty.

:( I felt terrible each time I called in sick (I had a lot of time off) esp as my boss is pregnant and was carrying on (however she was understanding to me, her superior not so much so towards her)

I still feel guilty that i'm not there even though i'm on mat leave. I know that the bitchy women with no kids will be complaining and makes me not look forward to going back :(

So I'll tell you not to feel guilty, but if you're anything like me it wont make a blind bit of difference...

:)

I am sure people won't think that and if they do that is their problem. If you stay at home you will get better quicker and won't be spreading your germs to others - so you are doing your colleagues a favour Smile. Relax, make yourself comfy and put the kettle on

How long til your mat leave starts??

piccalily · 06/09/2010 11:04

Mat leave starts at 38 wks but I finish work at 35 wks because I have 3 wks of annual leave to take.

The annoying thing is, pregnant or not, some people are so quick to judge how someone else is feeling. Like last week at work, colleagues were ill with this sore throat bug and some came into work and some didn't. So you can imagine the conversations at work!

On the plus side, my new pushchair has literally just arrived. Yay!

Thank you for your kind words. It does make me feel better!

I know exactly how you feel I have just taken a week off for a kidney infection just weeks after being off with a nasty cold and i feel just terrible about it.
I had a really good sick record before pregnancy now it's just shocking! Everyone keeps telling me i'll not receive any thanks for getting stressed about missing work but the fact is I don't want people to think i'm slacking or that i'm using pregnancy as an excuse to get out of work.

The truth is some people will bitch and moan - and then they will forget about it and get on with their own lives

The harsh truth is that NONE of us is that important and work will carry on without us, so there really is no point in dragging yourself in to work if you're sick, in a week's time noone will remember that you did it so you might as well rest and get better

Have you got tonsillitis that needs treating do you think? That makes you feel dreadful and if you have pus in your throat, it's really important that it's treated as it can cause damage to your heart oddly.

whatever you feel, do not feel guilty for being off sick. you have entitlements and you are genuinely not well. do anything that's going to make you feel relaxed &recover!
always think of those who do take the p**s with sick days. (we all know someone at work who does)
i was off sick for 2 months with severe hyperemesis & made things worse one day when i felt guilty and tried to go back to work.never again!! Thats what sick pay is for! you have to look after yourself and baby first. the world will manage without you for a few days or weeks.
hope you feel better soon though
xx

Sometimes you just want to tell people who b*h about other colleagues that they wouldn't like it much if they caught the diseases and suffer worse if they happen to have low immune system! Sort of serves them right then, doesn't it?

At my current office, we desperately beg our ill colleagues NOT to come in as nobody else wants to catch it. Having said that, some still do come in and I go 'grrrr...' as I always catch it and suffer much worse than they do. I used to work in a different company with different culture where they always had a go at colleagues who didn't turn up to work when "they ONLY had a cold. Ooh, even spotted that person in Boots shopping yesterday".Err yes, because that person had to go in to collect his/her prescription?!! Hmm

Moral of this post, never feel guilty about taking any time off sick. You yourself know if it's genuine or not and the only reward you'll get for working too hard is being more ill and harming yourself/baby. Not worth it.
