First scan appointment at 10 weeks - a mistake?

I'm 9 weeks and I got my appointment for my first scan when I'll be 10 weeks and 0 days.

Midwife coming to the house tomorrow and I'll obviously clarify it then, but could do this be a mistake?

Gave doctor the date of my last period when I first found out at 4 weeks so unless he has taken it down wrong, 10 weeks seems too early.

Has anyone else been given this time for their dating scan. Bit loathe to give it up because I am now excited and don't want to wait until another appointment becomes available which may be over the 12 week mark now.

Thanks

Thanks Loopymumsy.

I think it is just a dating scan, although I wonder if I will be offered an NT one. I came up as 1-245 for downs syndrome for my previous pregnancy so opted for the amnio. Was wondering if my odds will increase because I am now older (am 35).

Of course, I will ask my midwife but was wondering if anyone else had been offered one so early.

I'll guess I'll find out a bit more tomorrow anyway Smile. Arrgh - hate waiting!!

My midwife told me that my first scan would be between 10 and 12 weeks so your date does not sound unreasonable though it seems it varies between areas. This is my first pregnancy, but I am thinking the earlier the scan, the sooner it will seem more real that there is a baby in there, the sooner I have more of an idea that it is ok and the sooner I can tell other people as I will be struggling to keep it a secret by then!

Ideally nuchal scan should be before 12 weeks or at 10 or 11 weeks is better. My boss has said that there have been a number of undetected Down Syndrome babies born in our area and that research shows screening too late [which is what they have done here]makes it hard to detect.
For ordinary scan it dosen't sound too early though 12+ weeks is more ususal.

The NT scan has to be done between 10 and 13+6 weeks. So if you are actually 10+0, that's fine...but if you ovulated/conceived later and were under 10 weeks, they might not be able to do it.

You should have already been told/asked about the NT scan if it's available in your area. Not everyone opts to have it.

If it's a dating scan with no NT measurement, then 9+6 weeks (for exmaple) would be fine.

That's where I'm coming from as well stegasaurus! I have spent the past 5 weeks tired and nauseous and want to be able to moan about it to all and sundry instead of playing it down and getting on.

And of course more importantly I want to ensure everything is going well and baby is fine. Slightly panicky that there may be more than one in here too!

That's really useful info on the NT scan. It's not something I have been offered (scan is at our local hospital not the maternity unit where I think my friend had the NT scan carried out before) and I am bit concerned about the chances considering my previous history.

Definitely will be discussing it with midwife.

That's reassuring to hear Loopmumsy. I have found myself - accidently but nevertheless happily - pregnant in quite difficult circumstances. DH is on kidney dialysis though well enough and it stretches us a family as it is.

Midwife has now been and confirmed that appointment is dating scan, though she has given me an EDD a day later than everything else is saying. So I would be getting scan on at 9 weeks and 6 days Confused

NT scan is only offered if you are over 40 despite previous high-risk results and would need to go private if I wanted to find out.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
