Fed up with feeling crap - give me a break!

I am nearly 19 weeks gone and I am STILL feeling crap practically all the time. The nausea has dulled down, but it is still here, along with horrendous wind, dodgy tummy, heartburn, headaches and knackeredness from low iron count.

I would like to be able to get up and be able to enjoy my day, but I can't as I feel rubbish most of the time. I have the odd really good day (bank holiday was great), but then I feel awful for the next 3-4 days, it's soul destroying!

It is my 5yo dd's last day of her school holiday today and she wants to go swimming (have to drive out of town for this) and I really don't feel up to it, but I will need to force myself, as even though dp is off work today, he can't drive. I really don't want to let her down. Please tell me that I'm not the only one still feeling like this at almost the halfway point.

(Sorry for the rant).

hey rocklover - I've been wondering how you've been doing and if you're any better. So glad that the nausea is a bit better - that's something. Think I'm similar to you - nausea has (I hope) decreased in general but comes back very quickly if I get tired, and thing is I get tired so easily! If I'm lucky I can get an hour where I feel 'normal' and feel like actually getting up and doing something every day, but then I just collapse and have to sit/lie down for ages. I've tried pacing myself through the day but then I can barely do anything (and I mean, literally anything!)but then at least I don't feel so sick in the evenings when I do barely anything in the day.

I'm only managing trips out of the house for 1 - 2 hours a day which exhausts me. When I compare how I was a few weeks ago I think I've made great strides in general, but I'm back at work next week and have no idea how I'll cope - to be honest I don't think I can manage it. When I'm out I just have to come straight home and lie down when it gets to the point of exhaustion but if i keep going I get worse and worse and worse...

Btw I'm also getting headaches (trying really hard to drink lots of water which helps a bit), heartburn (horrible) on and off and bloating of mammouth proportions with gas. sigh.

Can you make a trade with dd - if you have a quiet day today you'll take her at the weekend? Maybe you'll have more energy then (but have to put up with it being much busier). Or perhaps a quick trip swimmming after school on friday as a start to the weekend treat? Hope she had a good holdiay with her dad.

Rocklover · 02/09/2010 10:32

I could try and trade with her, but then couldn't guarantee that I will feel well on Sat and dp will probably get bored if we don't go out. Although he is still in bed at the moment, so not sure when he's going to get up yet.

I went to Plymouth on Monday to get school shoes and visit with dp's family. Left the house at 11.30 and didn't get back til 18.30ish, was very pleased with myself, especially as I managed 3 hours out at the Cider Press Centre on Sunday too. Since then I have been rubbish though, went into town on Tues and had a panic as felt very sick and had an upset tummy, so spent the day in yesterday.

I am seriously hoping that my health will improve, especially as I keep forgetting to take my iron supplement. I have a very low iron count and very low iron stores, so I must try harder to improve them, it really does make me feel very tired. I find it hard walking very far, so walking into town and back is a challenge (even though it's only 5 mins from the flat).

Well that's my little moan over with, I am off for my 20wk scan next weds (already nervous) and I am finally beginning to feel little movements from baby which is nice.

Hope work isn't going to be too awful for you next week angels, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

You are doing so amazingly well to manage being out for a whole 7 hours - that's incredible work Grin .

I'm utterly exhausted today after doing a few bits in the past couple of days so having to have a quiet day in recovering. It definately catches up with me too and i need a day to recover.

But at least we're making progress, that's a good sign. Hopefully we will get to being 'normal' again soon.

I'm waiting for the doc to ring me back and praying she'll give me another prescription for anti-sickness pills. Not sure what I'll do if she doesn't...they are the only thing that give me confidence that I'll be OK to go out.

Rocklover · 02/09/2010 17:03

I have to get another prescription for my anti-sickness meds soon too.

I managed to get dd and dp out to the swimming pool, then we did a grocery shop, so managed being out for about 4 hours in total. Felt a bit sicky on the way back as I hadn't had enough to eat, but I'm back home in one piece, albeit rather knackered.

I have the school run starting again tomorrow, so at least I won't have dd at home to entertain all day lol. I will miss the lie ins though!

4 hours out is great considering you didn't even think you'd manage just the swimming. I barely managed walking to the post office round the corner this afternoon - felt really dizzy and horrible Sad , but at least the Doc gave me another prescription for anti-sickness pills without any fuss.

Was wondering how you were getting on Smile. Glad the nausea has eased somewhat. But please don't suffer in silence with everything else. Check with your GP, but I'm sure that ranitidine is OK for heartburn, if the usual Gaviscon doesn't touch it, and I think that paracetemol is OK for headaches. Could the iron supplements be causing your dodgy tummy? I remember that we both have IBS and I had the most God-awful tummy upset after taking spatone. I know this is supposed to be one of the more gentle supplements and the "usually" iron results in constipation, not the runs, but I checked their website and an upset stomach and stomach irritation are listed as side effects. Maybe having IBS made me more sensitive to it? Might be worth investigating an alternative supplement to see if that makes a difference.

Nice that you are feeling little one move Smile. Good luck with the scan next week! XX

Lizzzombie · 02/09/2010 17:44

I'm on Ranitidine for my heart burn. Not that it works.
Nothing works.
I am literally necking gaviscon. It makes me wretch.

I'm 28 wks gone, and feeling utterly pants. I've turned into a negative moany bint and I am sure I must be pushing everyone away in RL for being so boring about how rubbish I feel constantly.

I am so pleased I am not the only person who feels rubbish! I have a 3.5yo DS and my pregnancy with him didn't affect my life at all, I was totally fine. But now, I am an exhausted emotional wreck of a pregnant whale. (am having a girl this time). I cry all the time and just want to sleep, plus feel totally ill all the time. I'm so bored of it. I just want my body/life/energy/appetite back.

I keep telling myself its not forever, and its nearly over, but I am counting the hours down till this baby arrives and if she is late I am DEMANDING an induction the next day, I can't handle being pregnant anymore!

I am not bloomin' marvellous, I am a wreck!

anonMum2 · 02/09/2010 18:08

It doesn't seem fair that some pregnant women go through pregnancy so easily whilst some others don't. I, for one have been feeling awful and have been complaining and ranting. Everyone avoids me now for being such a miserable cow but I can't really help it. It's probably worse for me because I had a bad birth and a difficult year after DC1 was born, so I'm not even looking forward to that bit.

Hopefully feeling better and more optimistic in my next post. :)

Rocklover · 02/09/2010 18:11

I am taking Spatone Card (although I was supposed to ask the dr for some tablets - no way) and it is going ok, it is more my diet I have had to amend.

I cannot eat beef anymore and I can only eat small portions at dinner time or I get very bad tummy pains and extreme nausea. With the heartburn I am lucky that I (weirdly) like aniseed Gaviscon, so I neck it all the time; although I really need to get a prescription for it. I have also stocked up on paracetamol today.

Lizz I can totally empathise, I really cannot wait for next January to get here so that I will finally get my body and life back. I am just hoping to God that I do start to feel better at some point as I am getting very pissed off with it all!

Hi there,

Just created a new post feeling quite similar as some of you all.

Rocklover did the Dr say how long it would take for the iron supplements to kick in? I wonder if I am a bit low and that this is causing me to feel knackered too.

Lizzombe have you tried the other flavour of gaviscon? I find the minty one just about more bearable than the aniseed one (I think I drank too much sambuca one night and I cant stand it ever since- pre-pregnancy of course Grin

I take my hat off to you ladies that already have children, its only me to look after and I seem to be making a hash of that.

Rocklover · 02/09/2010 23:37

No lizard, the midwife didn't give me an idea of how long it would take to work, but I have to have another blood test next week to check my levels again.

I should be taking 2 sachets a day, but I am only taking one as I have ibs and my stomach is very sensitive.

I am very, very bad at pregnancy!
