Im 36+2 with my first, have been having regular scans as baby is small, had my routine growth scan today, and appointment with the consultant, I mentioned while I was there about lower back pain/ cramping ive been getting since yesterday, along with just generally feeling run down, she said this was a good thing and a sign labour could be close, which she said is good as baby is small so could basically fatten her up when shes out Hmm the consultant didnt seem at all worried but I feel like it is still too early, all my family think its a good thing that dd might be here sooner than expected, I feel like im the only one panicking, would anyone else be a little bit concerned?

well my midwife did say anything from 30 wks or under is classed as a premature birth. So 36 wks is nothing near premature. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. i had both my kids at 38 wks, no one was concerned at it being early, and my 2nd child was on the small side, always had been throughout pregnancy.

if you still feel worried speak to your midwife, i'm sure she will reassure you.

My son arrived at 36 weeks exactly - he spent about an hour in scbu to be checked over, but was otherwise absolutely fine. As I understand it, the only thing that one might worry about at 36 weeks is the suck reflex - as this only clicks in between 36-37 weeks. Which can make breastfeeding slightly harder to establish (I had to work quite hard in the first few days to convince ds it was worth the bother) - otherwise, think you should be fine.

That said, I would have through that feeling run down is a pretty standard symptom at 36 weeks, and I didn't have any specific symptoms (until my waters broke Smile) so I wouldn't assume that your consultant has a crystal ball on your birth date...

I had dd2 at 35 weeks and she was fine despite weighing 5lb 4oz. She is now a very healthy 6 year old child.

My waters popped at 36+1 with DD, and she was born at 36+3; and she is absolutely fine. Gets you out of the final waddling-and-sweating stretch...

I had no warning, everything seemed to be normal till then, but it turned out she was small for gestational age (5lb2 at birth). Am 33 weeks into PG2, got another small baby but being monitored more closely this time. Crossing fingers to keep going as long as possible this time!

DD was born at 36 +3 and was fine. Weighed 6lb and no problems at all.

ds1 - 33 wks 3lb 7oz never went near scbu as he screamed his head off

ds2 42wks 8lb scbu within 12 hours

no rhyme or reason to any of it. At 36 weeks I wouldn't be concerned
