i'm on pg no. 3 and am having horrible morning sickness. i'm not actually throwing up (very grateful) but feel awful all the time and nothing seems to help, not even eating.

all these tips about what to avoid / eat on the net that i've found don't seem to work.

so what worked for you?

i took ginger capsules from holland and barrett. Was not being sick but felt awful, and after 24 hours of takng these things were bearable. Dont bother eating ginger things the capsules are mega strength and i found them really effective. They also say vit B6 and I bough some of these but never needed o resort to tem in the end, sickness stopped at 9 weeks (luckily).

I found that if I kept nibbling it helped a lot. My most effective things were Ginger biscuits, fig rolls and dry crackers.
I also found brushing my teeth a trigger. It was much less noticeable with an electric toothbrush tho!

Feelig queasy all the time now with dc2 but so far manageable...

Ginger did nothing for me - eating a ginger biscuit would only make me throw up!

Tried the seasickness bands that some peoople swear by, but they did nothing for me.

Unfortunately very little helped my very very bad MS. Sometimes sucking on an ice lolly helped

I lived on dry toast for quite a few weeks. It was the only thing that I could keep down - sometimes with a scraping of Marmite for some nutrients! Take a pregnancy multi vitamin so you are getting all the minerals and vits you need.

Maybe try peppermint tea. Some peoople say this helps.

How many weeks are you? - mine went at about week 13/14

Eating little and often, and nothing interesting - pretzels, plain biscuits, toast, etc.

Staying hydrated - Gatorade really helped me (no artificial sweeteners).

Try the travel bands - they may have helped me a little bit and they can't hurt.

Resting - even now (25 weeks) over-tiredness brings back the sickness.

Lemon water helped with me, or almost-flat lemonade?

And yep, an orange/lemon calippo helped too!

thanks all - really appreciated.

i'll give them all a go!

The travel bands really really helped me, as did a big bottle/mug of lemon juice, hot water and ginger every morning. When I( could brig myself to eat it protein really helped too: scrambled eggs on oatmeal bread toast.

Fizzy water helped me, and ice lollies. I ate a lot of salty snacks too.

Had bad sickness till week 22 but found haribos and diet coke would fend it off for a few hours on a real bad day. Consultant said the sugar would actually help so I started sucking on sweets and they actually helped when lying down. It's difficult but you just need to stay hydrated so drink anything you can. Thinking of you cos I know how bad it feels. My consultant told me to take comfort from the fact that my body was actually doing it's job properly and protecting my bump. Not much of a consolation when you feel crap but it will soon pass.

I think you can conclude from this that what works for one person does not work for the next and that there is no 'one answer'.

It is trial and error as to what works for you.

If you are like me and your sickness is severe then really nothing will work and it is a case of what makes you feel the least bleeurgh.

It annoys me when you see GPs on television or in magazines saying 'eat ginger or have ginger tea, then you will be fine'. That DOES NOT work for everyone and they seem to assume that that is the key and that if we followed their advice we would all be fine. Not so.

But good luck finding what works for you!

Yes agree with Daisy different things work for different people, so just try things and some will work, some wont.

Best things for me-

Eat little and often

Keep food plain and simple

Opening a cupboard with strong smelling food in it would set me off, so I put food I used/wanted on worktops so I didnt need to open cupboard doors!

warthog · 31/08/2010 20:25

yes - you're absolutely right - everyone is different.

there are a lot of tips to try. today i snacked little and often and that seemed to help. helped with the tiredness too.

i'll try peppermint tea too. can't stomach coffee at all, which is all i used to drink!

can't wait for this stage to be over...
