At what week do I see doctor to book scan?

Hi everyone,

I've been a bit slack/busy/casual and although I'm 9.5 weeks pregnant I still haven't seen the doctor.

I know the first scan happens at around 12 weeks, but when do you normally first see a doctor and/or "book in" the scan?

Is it okay if it doesn't happen until a little later or am I likely to be told off by someone? ;)

You are not a child. You should not be "told off" by anyone.

You can usually just book in through yours mws, just ring the surgery this am and see what they will do for you. I think the importance of the timing hinges more on what tests you will be choosing to have or not have.

I think generally "booking in" - letting them know is around 8 wks.

In some places you don't see your gp at all anymore you self refer to the MW so just ring your gp and they'll tell you.

The importance of the 12 week mark is the timing of various tests they can only be done between certain weeks in your pregnancy I think the main one is the nuchal fold test. If you are planning to have tests done it will be worth getting on and getting booked in because if it's anything like here getting an appointment in time is a nightmare.

Get booked in with the mw. Your go can tell you how to do it.
Fwiw I'd do it sooner than later as our mw take 2 weeks to get in touch with booking in appointment ! Never mind how long to sort scan etc ! Hope yours aren't as slow as mine!

If you want the nuchal test done (and it's offered in your area) then that has to be done between 10 and 13+6 weeks. Going off your LMP isn't always accurate, so they try to book it in for when you're 12 weeks so there is a margin for error on the dates.
