if you still have the headache by tmrw, go to docs to get it checked over as maybe its a high blood pressure or summat else or nothing

expatkat · 31/08/2005 10:23

If this reassures, I was on the maximum daily dose of paracetamol for about a week or 10 days when I was 8-9 weeks pregnant due to fever + excructiating pain. (I was also on antibiotics.) I have an exceptionally healthy 3-yr-old (nearly) girl now (touch wood).

chloe55 · 31/08/2005 10:26

Paracetamol is fine just don't take anti-inflammatories like Nurofen/Ibuprofen. I am 16 weeks pregnant and have been taking the normal dose of paracetamol.

Nemo1977 · 31/08/2005 10:30

you can paracetamol as it doesnt cross the placenta. Anti imflammetries can have an effect on baby so not to be taken in pregnancy.

swiperfox · 31/08/2005 10:31

ffs dp has taken them all and only left ibuprofen

But good to know I can take paracetamol. When I was pg with ds, I had severe sinusitis and the doc told me I couldn't have anything!!

Will have to be a trip to shop then I'm afraid - get some of that 4head/cold strips if you can too - it's completely safe and takes your mind of the headache a bit

RedZuleika · 31/08/2005 10:38

Could I just add a note that aspirin / anti-inflammatories / NSAIDs should not be taken in pregnancy - UNLESS they have been prescribed for certain fertility issues.

chloe55 · 31/08/2005 10:39

Oooh didn't know you couldn't take aspirin, thanks for that one

biglips · 31/08/2005 11:38

i remembered when i was 6 months pg and i was ill with flu on the cruise so i drank 1 lemsip a then later i checked it with the onboard doctor to see if ok with lemsip and he said no lemsip as it got summat in it that i couldnt take! so i has to stick with paracetamol for the rest of the holiday

nailpolish · 31/08/2005 11:41

paracetamol is about the only thing you can take in normal doses while pg.

no aspirin as it thins the blood, and no brufen as it can cause kidney damage (and your kidneys are under enough stress while pg as it is). although brufen is fine if it is a one off (i think)

hth

munz · 31/08/2005 11:56

yes 8 in 24 hours is ok according to my M/W

Nemo1977 · 31/08/2005 12:01

no lemsip etc as they can have antihistimanes in. Hence why a lot of gps also refuse to give prescripstions for hayfever/allergies while pregnant

Gobbledigook · 31/08/2005 12:11

Yes - you can take it as normal

Holymoly321 · 03/09/2005 17:12

I used to have a packet of nurophen permanently in my office drawer - always seemed to be taking them. So was a bit concerned that i wouldn't be able to cope when I fell pregnant and didn't want to be taking any sort of drugs. I found 4Head to be a great substitute and would def recommend it. Also, interestingly enough, I've also found that I don't get anywhere near as many headaches, and intend to keep on using 4head instead of paracetamol in the future.

BibiTwo · 05/09/2005 12:00

I had killer headaches in last pregnancy and am in the throes of a week long one no with this pregnancy - I could not survive without paracetamol. MW is unconcerned as long I don't take more than 8 in 24 hours.
Admittedly, paracetamol against these headaches is like trying to kill an elephant with a spoon, but it takes the edge off slightly.
