I was induced with my first, it was all very straight forward, they hooked me up to oxytocin as soon as they broke my waters and gave me an epidural, I was in labour 8 hours and everything went fine. It's really nothing to worry about, I had a section the second time due to breech baby so I've never had a "normal" birth but nothing really matters once the little one is out safe and sound!

I was induced with baby 2 if that's any good!! I found the induction simple and no where near as aagghh as the stories I had heard. I was given a gel pack at 4/5 am, went back to sleep, went for a walk, listened to i-pod, watched tv etc, had another gel pack at 11ish, had a few baths, kept moving, walking etc. Was monitored for 10/15 mins at about 2ish. Severe contractions started at 4pm, baby delivered at 6.45pm.

I had no interventions, no forceps, was encouraged to be as mobile as I wanted. Had dd kneeling at side of bed. A much better experience than dd1 which was an 11 hour back to back labour!!. Good luck

i was induced with my 3rd , did not work so i had a cs due to failed induction

I was induced with no. 3. Was fab. Had mobile epidural but stayed upright on birthing ball, whole thing lasted 7 hours, mellow and controlled. No interventions, no stitches. I would say ask for an early epidural if you want one and the whole thing will be relaxed.

It's actually v nice to be able to arrange childcare and not arrive in the middle of the night! Vastly preferred induction to second, spontaneous 3 hour labour which was pretty intense and stressy. Good luck!

I have just been recommended to be induced at 39.5-40 wks with my 3rd because my 2nd was a quick labour and the doctor wants to make sure it is all under control. I asked about whether this would lead to more risk of intervention / complication and was told no, because they will examine and ensure I am "ripe" before going ahead. Maybe this applies to you too?

Also, I think it makes a big difference that it's your third - I have heard that induction is likely to work much quicker in this case (e.g. only needing 1st stage of induction, then your body taking over). Does anyone have experience of this?

I had my waters broken with dc3, with the other two this was the first thing to happen but with number three I went into slow labour and after most of three days faffing (and "stuck" at 3cm) they decided to help me out. Best thing I could have done - it was as quick as expected (faster than ds2, who was extremely fast)only 1.5 hrs in labour. Try not to panic, it's not as if your body's new to this experience [wibk]

[wibk]? Blush that was not what I meant.

Meant to add, with dc3 I went into labour at 36+5. Would also say it was much better than dc2 who was much too fast and frantic. Also no stitches, all chilled and controlled.

I was induced for the first time with my third at 15 days overdue. She wasn't particularly keen to come out. Twelve hour labour and forceps. Still not as bad as first labour though!

Would recommend avoiding an epidural if you can - everything ground to a halt and had to be hooked up to drip.

Actual process of induction was fine. Just had waters broken and went to 4cms in a very short time. Baby kept turning though so positioning not great - makes all the difference I think.

Good luck x

Ladies thanks so much for your stories & advice its a real help. Im hoping that as my youngest is only 14 months things will happen quickly but im staying open-minded & will go with the flow. Ive had epidurals with DS1 & DS2 and for some reason they make in incontience for a while so will try my hardest to avoid one but who knows im a real wimp!!

My main concern is that it will be a long process & i really dont want to leave my boys for long although i know they will have a whale of a time with the grandparents!!

Thanks again :)

I was induced with 1 and 3. 3 was the worst (and longest). Sorry. I hoep yours is lovely quick and painfree.

louloubelle · 30/08/2010 19:15

I was induced with no 4, after 3 spontaneous births. Was very worried, had waters broken, uncomfy not painful, then a 3 hour wait to see if anything happened, nothing did, so on the drip at 12 noon, baby at 4pm. Had epi at 2-30, a mobile one so could still move a bit, no catheter (which I was ecstatic about!!) Was very helpful to know when baby was coming for childcare, although I had no choice in being induced. Was a much much better experience then I imagined it would be.
